The move to our own dedicated server is finally in motion. With over 3k in registered members and I believe over 10k in lurkers it is time to move again. We are unable to obtain more hard drive space and there are no more spots to add ram. As the day approaches I will let everyone know to wrap up any business that may need to be taken care of since the site may be down for 3-5 days during the switch over.

The site has grown a lot in the last year and I have a feeling it's going to continue to grow at an even faster pace. The hard drive on our new server will be 20 times larger then the one we have now and and when 150 people or more are on the site at one time it won't slow down because we will have double the ram. Once our new site and car gallery is done we will need the extra space and bandwidth for all the new content that is being collected and written.

Once again I want to thank everyone for your support and thanks again to all the moderators and of course Ralph. We could not do it without everyone's help.

I can't wait to see how we have grown a year from now. Who knows, maybe we will build a car or start our own yearly competition. Hmmmmm??????

I just hope the new site has the secret room for the 1K posters! I'll get there eventually.

I have been a lurker for about a year, trying to help when I can, but mostly just to see the progress and builds of all of the awesome cars here. I gotta say, this is one of my favorite sites I have ever been to. Once you visit, you get hooked. I just wish I had the funds and skill to do some of the stuff that other guys are doing to their cars. And a "Pro-Touring" car would be freakin' awesome! The ultimate pro-touring machine utilizing the best components in the industry. Man, that would be so cool. :bananna2:

I would rather pull all of my own teeth out with a pair of pliers than have this site down for 3-5 days. The only upside I can see is I might ACTUALLY work on my car if the site is down.

Congrats Larry & Steve

Larry,
Great job on the site.
It is always the 1st place that I go to when I sit down at the computer.
You guys sure have helped me a bunch!
My favotite part is clicking on "new posts"
and seeing multiple pages pop up.
(I know I need to get a life...)
Congratulations on the growth!

I'll second that. Too bad you could not do this while I was out of town this past week-LOL
Seriously, I am glad to see you making the step, just in time too. I feel you have only scratched the surface. I guess I will have more time to work on the car instead of talking about it huh?

Thanks everyone for the props. I could not do it without everyone and our great moderators.

Today I placed the official order for our new server. It will be built on Saturday and they will run a 48 hour burn in. So, over the next week I will start transferring everything but the forum over. I think the official change over will happen the first weekend in September.

Thanks again everyone!

Down for 3-5 Days..?? Were a new sponsor here and down already? Can I get a refund? Just kidding. I too had been a lurker for sometime but could always look forward to logging into this forum. It has truly been rewarding.

Doh! I knew there was something I was forgetting. lol!
Actually, the 3-5 days is just to cover my rear. I honestly think 1-2 days but, to be safe I went with 3-5 days.

The new server has been built and is being tested now. I hope to transfer all the files over the weekend and begin testing.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Wooohoooo!!! The new dedicated server is up and running. I will start copying files over tonight. We are going from using 90+% of our resources to using less then 10%

Now we have plenty of space to grow.

Larry....are we all going to have to re-register again?

Larry Callahan
08-09-2005, 11:04 AM
Nope, the only thing you will notice is the site will run faster.

Larry Callahan
08-09-2005, 11:04 AM
Note: The forum will be shut down on Thursday August 11 at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time and will remain offline untill 10:00 a.m. the next morning. This is being done to upgrade the old server to the same version of software that is running the new site.

This way we can back up the old server and then restore it on the new server and wala. Done!

Maybe we should move the chat to Wednesday night this week.

Larry Callahan

The chat will be o.k. if you use the direct link. It's on a different server. I'll post the link.
