I need some advice I have the opportunity to buy a 70 chevy blazer for 500 bucks it needs front floors and rear quarters and rockers. how much do you think it would be to do the work on something like this. just trying to see if it is worth the time. i would just keep it in primer for a while just wondering about how much i would be looking at. thanks guys

if its mechanically good.. its worth 500... if its a 2wd... its def worth it. you might be better off finding another body rather than repairing everything. but i dunno how rare they are on east coast. out here they are everywhere.

Just keep in mind when you start taking rusty cars apart they usually get worse as you get into it more.

Depending on you labor rates

Sheetmetal on any vehicle can get expense in a hurry no matter what make of vehicle. I would start pricing out sheetmetal and then get a labor quote. As nice as they are, they still don't command enough money to invest heavily in. I have a '69 K5 that I am redoing as economically as possible. I figure I might break even when done not counting labor.

300$ ? You would be saving $200, and I know the shop I go to, a real restoration show charges between 45-55 bucks and hour...so you are looking at about 4 hours of labor saved.

Is that enough? And what is the going price of a solid 70 blazer? Might be cheaper?

you might want to ask these questions over here

they can give you some advice and you might meet someone in your area that is doing that type of work or can at least help you out.

You could get it for free and it would not be the difference if it makes or breaks the project. You would be better starting off with as little rust as possible and as complete as possible. I would hunt for one on ebay or the classifieds that is close in better condition IMO.

By the time you get done with all of the labor and the time spent you will probably be able to find one in the color you like and just pick it up. I redid an S15 once and for the time and money all I got was a truck the color I wanted. Yellow was hard to find after a search and I picked up the one I got for $500 and it cost about $2500 by the time I was done with new doors , front sheetmetal, and patch panels.

If you do buy it , use only GM panels and doors. It will cost you a bit more but it is worth it. All of the panels are still available from GM the last time I looked for my 77 pickup which is different but truck and Blazer parts are a good seller for GM and if they don't have them the aftermarket has a lot of junk to weed through.

I would bet that for $5,000 you could get what you want in almost perfect shape and not have to wait or go through the grief of hoping it turns out right. The going rate a year ago for something like you are talking about is between $3,500 and $5,000.
