My brother in law has now committed to building one of these cars, 59-60 style. His plans are a full Roadster Shop Chassis with IRS, LS7 engine, full leather interior yet retaining the original theme of the car etc. Forgeline wheels, AP Racing brakes. In reality there wouldnt be much original corvette except emblems and the body.

Now he has come across some original roller cars online but they do not have VIN tags of titles. In our state this can be a pain to get insurance or registration and the rules can be very strict over this stuff. the car would have to be fully documented and classified as a Kit Car and not a Corvette

He also had considered a repo corvette body to do the build with the feeling the fiberglass would be of better quality and less headaches doing repairs and fitment over the chassis.

i think his main concern is getting the car insured and registered and which way would be the most ideal? I personally advised him to get a real vette with vin tag and legit title just to avoid any issues after pouring tons of money into the project. real complete vettes for a donor do not come cheap.

I am sure some of you guys know someone or have done one of these builds before and can shed some informative input on moving forward.

Most Corvette project cars come with a good title and vin. The corvette vin stays with the body not the frame/chassis. Most vintage Corvette resto-mods/pro-touring cars are using new custom chassis's. Some of the ads for a C1 roller might simply be the old rolling frame/chassis, ergo no vin tag or title as the body and vin went with a new chassis.

Go to the Corvette Forum and look in the C1/C2 for sale section. There are usually a few project cars for sale. The cheapest solution is to buy a decent daily driver without matching numbers and replace the old chassis and suspension with a new one like Roadster Shop's. The down side is the C1 DD will cost about the same or more as a new Camaro SS, lol.

Im almost done with a pro-touring 65 C2 Coupe and have a 68 Coupe waiting in the wings.

I can give you some good info and pictures on fitting a C6 corvette front suspension clip and 4 bar rear in to a C1 chassis I had it all made by Art Morrison .

My 1954 vette runs a LS6, C6 Zo6 brake package, C6 front suspension, 9 inch diff, 4 link rear suspension. Lots of other mods. 1956 doors modified to fit the '54 , 1956 windshield all mated to an original 1954 corvette Scott hardtop.

Still got some work to go and some big dollar items such as interior , paint and wheels but its getting there.

All sometimes just that bit harder from Australia......

Cheers

How much project are you looking for. I have a original VetteRod S/N 18 that is a driver, but not a trailer or show queen. It is up for sale on RacingJunk.com.

By the way it has a SC title and registration as a 1959 Corvette.
