I am looking for a set of B Body spindles (.850" outer bearing) from a 79-80 Impala and many other BIG GM cars and station wagons to upgrade to 12” D-52 brakes on a ’70 Firebird. I need to use “vintage” parts for this project.
Does anyone have a source for these? I do not feel like prowling the junk yards.
Many Thanks,

Maybe use a set of tall Impala spindles from a place like Coleman racing? If not, I have a set of spindles in the barn I could be talked into parting with- as I was heading this way with the el Camino, before I changed directions. I also have 12" brake and and bearings for 1 side, I can check bearing diameter tomorrow if interested.

Many wrecking/recycle yards on linked online, so you really don't need to physically prowl the yards if you have a computer...which you must since you're posting this thread.

From an interchange point of view, nobody is going to know the difference between an early or late 80's GM tall-spindle since they're the same. If you were to run a 1991-1996 B/D-body spindle (GM #18021052/3), then those will have the ABS sensor boss on them, but that's easy to cut off. The outer bearing journal diameter is .844" (27/32"] and will coincide with either a SET34 (1.782" OD) or SET3 (1.969" OD) wheel bearing depending on the hub/rotor you choose.

Greg,
Could you check the measurement? I think I found a NOS set, but have not been able to get the measurement either. Not that I want to waste your time, but nice to know there could be two needles in the hay stack.
On your el Camino project, what were you going to use for rear brakes? I am concerned that a set of 12” D-52s could be too much rear brake.

Scaled @ 0.847" using a caliper. not a mic.
Current front plans (parts acquired: AFX Spindles, steering arms, and the (I understand) now defunct Touring Classics 13" brakes. This displaced the need for the B spindles.
In the rear, I've got a 9" for the el Camino- along with a set of Explorer rear discs (11.25"?) w/ integral parking brake. I think I'm not a fan of spot brakes used for parking.
