So I am getting going again on the 68 and I have been looking around to see if my previous plans were still pretty good.

I have changed direction in some places, but I feel like I will have a strong street motor combo

Here we go.

Pontiac 400 (YC block) 030 over
flat top pistions
670 Heads that have the chambers opened up (not shrouded anymore) and have street/strip porting (Butler) and flow ~240-250cfm
Comp hydraulic roller cam (.502i and .510e w/1.5rockers) XR276HR
promagnum 1.65 roller rockers
Edelbrock Victor EFI (Performer RPM with Injector bosses)
Edelbrock 29 or 35lb/hr injectors not sure yet
FAST EZ-EFI multiport set up
Dougs headers with the 1.75" primaries and 3" collectors

thoughts, suggestions?

what kind of power do you guys think I will make with this combo?

Thanks

Dyno sheet says from Comp that cam is set up for
427 ft*lbs @ 3700 RPM Max Power: 373 HP @ 5200 RPM
that's what to expect, cant make more than the components are built for (not for long any ways)

Your combo sounds good, but the Pontiac V-8 crowd goes to aluminum heads and 455+ cid when we want to make more power.

I kept it Old School with a 455, but am running 325 cfm e-heads from SD Performanace and their "Road Paver" HR- can't wait to see how much more power it's going to make over my 406 Poncho w/ ported no.48's.

Thanks for the input, however I saw that dyno result as well, but I didnt pay too much attention to it since they used a 350 SBC

Yea the guy I bought the engine from was selling it because he was a drag racer and wanted to build a 461

I had initially wanted to slap some e-heads on it, but I am on a budget, as well as wanting to build more of a daily driver than a beast

Looking at your combo I would estimate around 430-460 hp and 475 lbs.-ft.

I've run a 350P, 400, and 455 in my 72 Bird- of all three I'd say the 400 was the best all-around performer in terms of hp vs. mpg. I've never run a 400 with EFI and a roller cam, but I would guess it will make for a nice DD, even with the performance specs on your HR. The 406 currently in my 72 has ported no.48's, e-performer w/ a Holley 750 v/s, Hooker comps and 2 1/2" duals- it averages around 14-16 mpg, and makes enough power to propel the Bird into the low 13's with a 3.08 posi, Th-350 and 2500 stall.
