hey guys, quick question...currently have manual steering on my 69 camaro and its not working out very good..although im getting rather strong driving it, its not very practical, was thinking of converting to the Iroc powersteering box? is that the best bang for the buck? and is the box im looking for the cardone 276550? any input much appreciated

i just swapped to a fast ratio gear box with a type 2 pump, its a vast improvement over manual steer, but if you swap out the the iroc box you're going to lose some steering radius, i'd contact these guys with any questions and they'll set you up right http://lee-powersteering.com/

Be careful with those Cardone boxes - they are remanufactured and there have been a lot of complaints about getting the wrong gearing.
I swapped in an 89 IROC box from a junk yard and used the existing pump(with the valve mod). It's been a great improvement.

You can experience lack of turn angle if you have the long outer steering arms and short pitman arm, - that is the poorest combination. If you want less problems, get an AGR box. It won't require hose adapters & uses a stock PS rag joint, plus there will be no doubt it has the correct ratio & stiff valving.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee box is a good option too.

Here's info for Chevelles, which should apply to Camaro as well.

Just a note for future searches, I've found that the AGR box is made with very tight tolerances. Its pretty common to have to file out the joint to get it to fit. Thought I was doing something wrong, but AGR confirmed the joints are sloppily made. Also, they suggested running a solid u-joint over a rag joint. Just tidbits, your resutls may vary.
