View Full Version : Cambered rear end/brake bracket angle ?

So...
I have a cambered rear end housing with .5* neg. camber. I also have the available 360* mount that slips over the mount, and is to be welded to the snout (spindle). I figure I have some options here

1-have the bracket mounted at a .5* angle relative to the axle tube

2-mount the bracket straight, then use ~.030" (tangent of .5* across 3.5") extra shim on the bottom side of the radial mount bracket. I'm a little leary of the extra bending stress on the bolts (what little there would be)

3-mount the bracket straight, put the radial mount on flat, and "let things take care of themselves"(pad wear and bracket flex)

My question is... which one of these would be best? or, am I missing something?

I have a SS cambered rear and the brackets are mounted so the calipers don't need shims to set the angle. You can mock it all up with the hubs, brackets, brakes and rotors on and tack weld the brackets while you apply air pressure to the calipers. Then take everything off and finish the welding. Good to recheck toe when you are done.

Good luck

perfect, thank you!

I'll definitely need it checked/straightened afterwards (brake brackets and truck arm brackets)

Knowing what I know now, I would have ordered the housing with brackets attached (I still might, and use the one I have as a spare...who knows?)

Get a big hammer and ...

... Whack it!?:hammer:

I really hadn't thought of that for some silly reason. It really wouldn't take much persuading...(as I hold a 5# persuader in my hand) . I think a combination of both ideas should be perfect.
