Just a random thought that was spurred on by one of the JCG threads where he talks about fuel tank placement in the shop 68 Camaro he is building, but any thoughts on doing something like the C5/C6 Corvette tanks in place of the back seat/rear bulkhead in a second gen. By the time I move the front seat back for myself and minitub the car, there isn't going to be much room in the backseat, so it will likely be an empty area. I am trying to find dimensions for the tanks and it is probably far more trouble than it is worth, but you would move weight into the middle of the car and for me, it would give me some room to do the center exit exhaust that I have been thinking about. I would like to hear some thoughts and ideas on this.
Realistically, I will be going with a replacement tank and a Tanks Inc setup when I do the LSX swap.

I like the idea as long as you can keep the front/rear weight bias within reason by loosing weight up front. The Factory Five GTM uses the Vette tanks and they're in a pretty tight spot so I don't see any reason you couldn't fit them in a 2nd gen. You'd need a firewall and the big PIA will probably be connecting the 2 tanks. I'm working on a GTM build for a customer and he decided to have a set of aluminum tanks made so if you don't find the dimensions of the tanks send me a PM and I'll measure the stock Vette tanks we were planning to use.

Dimensions would be great.

OK, I'll get them. Possibly over the weekend if I go there. Here's the only pic I could find of a tank.

I would imagine you have spent enough time in and around the 14 car to visualize whether there is a place for these in a second gen.
I found that a tank from a Opel Manta GSI will fit nice between the wheel housings. These are made for EFI also and the pump will have no problen since it will be gravity feed. You have to add the filler cap on the fender "aerostyle or MC "
I have asked this question a few times. Will removing weight from the rear where the tank was and adding over the rear axle higher, be better for the weight distrubution ?

Thanks for the input. I was hoping for some off the wall ideas.

Sorry for the delay. The tanks and transfer line had been moved to a storage area because bodywork dust was getting on them. The base of the tanks are roughly 18 X 19 X 22" and they are about 20" tall. I brought them home along with the connecting braided hose if you want more info, pics or whatever. I think they'd fit fine in the back seat area of a 2nd gen. Just need to fab a firewall.

Why not between the wheelwells over the rear axle ?
