View Full Version : Headers/exhaust on a convertible '67 Camaro (with A/C)

I want to put headers on my '67 vert, but don't want to open a 'can of worms', ...with regard to fitment (and mounting of accessories such as A/C compressor).

In a nutshell, I'm looking for ideas/suggestions from anyone with a similar setup and also wondering about A/C compressor mounting with headers.

Here's what I've got:
A '67 (Camaro) convertible, small block (350), Tremek-TKO600 (w/tubular crossmember). Also has factory A/C and power steering. Suspension is a Hotckis 1.5" drop (w/Bilsteins). My general plan is a stock appearing car with a few upgrades (and I will most likely be going with a Sanden A/C compressor, but factory suitcase still on the firewall)

Exhaust system goals: (stock deep tone sound would be fine)
To have it as stock as possible with the addition of headers. Stay with the transverse muffler and 67/68 style tailpipes (that dump behind the wheels).

I realize the options are endless, but I'm looking for thoughts from those who may have done this, what brand headers and what exhaust...

From what I have seen, I think it's a given I need to change the tunnel brace to something like the Hotchkis 1404. I know I can purchase a stock system and adapt headers to it (which is my current plan, with Hooker Super Comps that I already have), ...but I am open to going with an aftermarket system (for headers) if fitment isn't an issue.

Thanks in advance for any ideas...
Kevin

...The more I look into this, the more I'm thinking I'm just going to go with the stock manifolds.
Going with the Tremec, a tubular trans cross-member, using a 168 tooth flywheel (BB 621 bellhousing even though I'm running a small block) along with factory A/C, ...in a convertible, ...it's simply adding up to too many variables. Considering I have the stock manifolds, all the factory A/C brackets, etc. it's going to make things a LOT smoother.
