After searching out a good deal for a machine that I wanted I found one on eBay. I must say while this battle isn't over I am really impressed with the whole processes so far. For those of you who don't know what this machine does take 5 min and youtube "Pullmax". Those of you that are in the know already have a good idea how useful this machine is. Weighing in at roughly 5840 lbs it was rather challenging unloading, moving and arranging it given the size of my shop. I included pictures of the machine and a collet wrench that I cut. Once things progress with this I'll keep up dating this forum as to the mods I've made to make this machine functional. That is a regular size Redbull can next the machine to give you a sense of scale. In two weeks I'm moving shops to a better lay out. While the machine is outside I'll degrease and pressure wash this thing.

The tooling you see here is configured for shearing. I'll have to make an offset spacer instead of buying a lower center tool holder. This machine takes 25mm tool stock.

I made this collet wrench out of two piece of 10 ga CRS. I had no intention on paying $75 for a wrench someone else made.

This is the collet nut, it's roughly 3" in diameter to give you a sense of the size. Everything on this machine is big.

Almost a perfect fit!

Quick sanding with a worn out disc leaves a "polished" look.

Wrench on the lower tool holder.

Awesome! Good buy.

Put a square hole in the other end of your collet wrench.....it seems easier to have just one tool for setup and adjustment.

Anything you can dream up you can do with this thing. You can even make dies out of bondo for short run stuff.

Okay so now I'm curious... how or why would I use the square on the wrench? I've never used one so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. The square is the size of the tooling I assume?

Look at your lower tool holder. There is a square drive on the left and right hand sides. The other side of them is tapered and that is how you adjust the tool holder front to back and then lock it in place. On the left side of the tool holder it is cut with a wedge and the right side of the tool holder there is a slot. if you back those adjusts out you will see what I mean.

For me it is easier to just have one tool that I can do all of the setup with. The wrench you made is awesome.....however you have to go over the tooling to tighten or loosen. Mine is c shaped....like a spanner wrench for coilovers, the collets really don't have to be that tight. I frequently run the lower collet tight by hand and hammer away.

Yeah I'm going to build another wrench today. I still need to figure what I'm doing with the lower tool holder.. I don't want to spend the cash on a center lower tool holder. I've seen others make spacers the thickness of the tooling to offset it the correct distance. Also, what do you know about rewiring these things from 440v to 208v?

I know nothing about wiring them. We had 440 in the shop so we hooked it up.

Ha! I just going to link you allmetalshaping but you are already there. I thought there was a thread there about the wiring.

If you haven't seen this, it may help http://allmetalshaping.com/showthread.php?t=5735

I took the lower tool holder apart.. I get what the bolts you are talking about do now. I think I have a seal leaking too which I'll deal with soon enough. Where did you get all your tooling from?

Seal leaking? If its just wet, like seeping a little, leave it alone and welcome to the club. Mine leaked to the point where it was actually dripping on the floor a little.....then it stopped and just kind of weeps now. Just watch the sight glass and make sure it is full.

Tooling, some is home made, my shrinking and beading dies came from Stan Fulton, and I have some Proline stuff. It continually amazes me what decent results you can get with what appears to be caveman tooling.....I mean crude ugly tooling.

I highly recommend Faye Butlers book....it is priced stupidly but it covers some of the science behind the die making process.

I am new to this, too. I have had mine about two years so that hardly makes me an expert.

I plan on ordering that book soon... but geesh $75 seems like way too much. I noticed the company I bought it from drained the oil so I still need to refill to see how bad it really does leak. The upper tool holder was soaked in oil when I got it I figured it was common on something this old.
