Thanks for for wanting to join us on the 17th.. WE also have an event this weekend. Also Sundays are as good as a Saturday practice..You just have to wait till the end of the day for 6 more runs "FUN RUNS"!
I haven't signed up yet for the 17th practice..Tom he always to signs up first and announce his run group here and everyone follows.I can't remember if afternoon or mornings are favored.
What year is you Mustang? Classes ESP,SM, And SU are the favored classes for muscle cars with some upgrades in San Diego,CP is another option.SM and SU always run at the same time while ESP works. Our other Brett stays in SM(1999 Roush Wing Godzilla Green Stang),Tom runs ESP in a 2013 stang and the other 4 or 6 Vintage Muscle. They ran SU last time.SM and ESP in the past.
haha "Godzilla green". welcome other brett! I like you already because you have a fox and a Miata, also because you have a good name :P similar to my two fun cars (sn95 and Miata)

Yes Brett your Car is Dark green and has a growl like Godzilla...LOLAnd you terrize the Japanese cars in SM..LOL... I haven't even had a beer yet ..:) There was even a song by a rock group called Go Go Godzilla.Could be a good bumper stick for you.I can't remember the name of the rock group that sang the song but they had a few hits.Deep Purple maybe.

debatable, word on the grape vine is that Peter B. is going to be switching over to SM with his new A6's tomorrow. if that's the case I give up in SM. He was two seconds ahead of me on street tire, not to mention how badly he'd kill me with the A6's lol. I might move to SU :P

Isn't the SM Moto, "When the going gets tough the tough get going"Peter B came for a Challeenge so put that RACE FACE on and go get him..LOL That's my Crew Chief talk if I were a Crew Chief....LOL
Maybe you can make up the few seconds after knowing your sticky tires better. It would be funny if everyone bails on SM to SU because PETER B is so good behind the wheel..lol Cruel and unusual punishment I think. You'll have SU guys beat by 4 plus seconds. not much of a challenge. There on Street tires.
Something that also entered my thoughts..If Peter B is really fast on Hoosiers.and is way ahead of the SM racers..He might try P1 next.I think he can run as a FP.Then get a 1.5 or 2 second handicap off his race laps. That would put him in the middle of P1 COMPETITION.. Remember P1 is a combined class of XP CP, and FP.with a PAx ADJUSTED TIME

I was at home, thinking about how my car has no hood, grille, front end pieces (save for headlights) and no door handles. Come to think of it, it would probably make a pretty good autocross car. I thought about taking it out, but I didn't want to hit cones with the car in primer and sanded ready for paint.

No need to think about it Bryce.a good driver can overcome most anything..Focus on that. We need a 1st and 2nd in SU next time out..
You guys looked good out there..It seems all of you desided to enter the second solalm. On the right..I thought of that to.. But after watching you guys try it.I changed my mind. :) It's good to work the course before you run...:)The off camber turm that you approach the salolm with would pitch out the back of the car.Rich almost had a spin there.
We had two winners off this thread Yesterday..Thats cool!
The course was one you really had to pay attention to when you walked it.I walked it twice and still DNFed 2 times. They really didn't need those Gate Markers.(pairs of 2cones).They where just turns in the course or Chicane..At speed the bigger cones kind of blocked my view of what was coming up ahead .I just kept pushing the gas pedal down hoping I had what remembered right.(( This was the section between the hairpin and the right hand 180 Dan W was working))and the ones after the second slalom..That is where I DNF twice ands so did Tom.THE COURSE LAYOUT WAS GREAT.I HAD PROBLEMs with how it was marked.
Bryce Your friend who did autocross for his first time.. He didn't look like a rookie..He might of done well in novice class ..What do you know?

E-Max ? does that mean Yellow challenger..
Also about going left on second slalom,Doing that you were able to stay on the gas coming out of the 180 and half way into the slalom.Instead of lifting to make it to the right of the slalom.Half second plus could of been lost going to the right of the slalom. The Mekur went left.Going left did make it a little harder exiting the slalom but still better overall.
I'm looking for a different rearend gears for my autocrosser.Original GSL gears are 390 I switched to GSL-SE 411s years ago and need to switch back.I need to get those RPMs down.

I can only speak for myself here, I know I WANTED to be left, but for whatever reason I came out of the turn prior confused and slow, and since I was already on the right, I went for it. I felt like I had been in a Mayor Bob "Filner Headlock"....

But what I really noticed is .Last event I think..Dan W drove Rich's 69 Mustang.Thats when they talked about how whore out the steering box was..I see how tough it is for Rich in the Video..Mark and Bryce make turning their cars look easy.compared to Rich..Time to replace the Box Rich..I'm wore out just watching the video...:)you can only go so fast if the steering box can't keep up..

Excellent work Mark! Maybe you can be the official SCCA/Pro-Touring videographer? You and Bryce look super smooth behind the wheel. One look at me behind the wheel on the other hand, shows what not to do! Not very smooth and went the wrong way on the first two slaloms! Those little maneuvers cost me big time!

Whats it going to take to fix the steering box..That would help a lot.You looked pretty quick from the outside the car,But you are working so hard at the wheel..I know Bryce upgraded his steering box after his first SCCA event.
Have you done anything to your's Mark?

The only way to fix that steering box is to melt it down and send it to China! Seriously though, I have a new Borgeson steering box ready to be installed but I was planning on waiting to install it when the engine is out in preparation for the new and much improved engine! Maybe I'll have to change the plan??

The official race results are now posted at SDR-scca.com..Bryce your friend finished first in Novice class on his first event out of 10 cars..Pretty good.Crazy a Lotus Exige finished last in Novice.
Richard. do you have a faster ratio box like Bryce? isn't there other steering links that can be changed that help in quickening the ratio?
frankenplanes
08-09-2013, 09:46 PM
Thanks Bryce, I appreciate that!
George, the factory steering ratio is 16:1 and the new box also uses that ratio. The advantages of the new box are many: It is an integral power box as opposed to the factory box which relies on a power ram and control valve for power assist. The new system eliminates many points of potential leakage and wear and should eliminate most of the looseness in feel. The new box should significantly improve road feel and control.
As far as improving the ratio, I'll talk to Mike Young about different length Pitman and Idler arms and
how to either source new ones or "improve" the existing ones. Mike is an "old school" hot rodder and has done this a bunch of times!
The only question now is whether I should make the change now or wait until the engine is out of the car. It will be a lot easier with the engine out and should require much less beer and Spanish cursing!

gotta say, quicker ratio rack with my racing steering wheel made a huge difference in driving. allowed me to be much more smooth since i dont have to turn the wheel as much. my steering rack is 15:1.
Tomorrow my new rear suspension gets here. I'm hunting a first place finish in SM :D

Something I noticed about another 200 tread tire choice.Hankook RS-3 have been a popular tire choice in the SCCA ST 140 tread wear classes. Now Hankook has changed there mind on it being a 140 tread wear. They say it last longer then expected and that they will lable it a 200.If you go to Tirerack you can see the tire offered as both a 140 and a 200.And the story of it being both 140 and 200.For wide 17s they are around 60.00$ less then Rivals.Oh and Justin the Subaru in ESP that is tough competition for TOM..Is on RS-3
I think 200 means they can sell more tires.
Tirerack.com RS-3 255/40-17 151.00$ 200 TWear
Performancetread.com there 138.00$ but are only listed as 140 treadware I'd make a phone call.
same size Nitto-05 are 132.00$ These are some bargain prices for some fun tires.
falken rt-615k 181.00$ are known to work well on muscle cars.
Brett That's the truth! You can't go as fast in a car that takes to much work to turn or time to turn.
We had a big turn out of autocrossers last weekend ..171 entries..

George, I run a 98 jeep box on my car, 12:1 Detroit speed inner/outer tie rods, adjusters, idler and pitman arms. If they made those RS-3's in 275 or larger they would sell like hotcakes.

That's a creative set up Mark... Jeep Steering box with Detroit Speed parts 12.1 ratio. It was like you were on a sunday drive. Compared to Rich driving with the whore or wore out steering box 69 Mustang.
So whens the Steering box change and weigh in scales party?
Bryce RS-3 245-40-17 are 145.00 at Performancetread.com.C2racers in Kearny Mesa sale them for the same price when you figure in shipping.RS-3 have been around for I think 4-5 years.Rivals and Dunlops could perform better. If your new to autocross I'd go cheap. If you want to win It's time to ask a lot of question with the racers at SCCA Qualcomm this weekend. For SCCA classes 40 treadwear is also a choice.
OKay just a few more days till next event. It will be a full day test and tune event Saturday.Half your runs will be morning 2nd half afternoon.Same for work groups. This also means 90 cars have to go threw tech by 9am.That means get there early.7:30am or earlier would be good.
From what I know T/A Brett H is in Red Group for his first event with us. Dan W and Rich T in Green group.I don't know if any other Pro-touring.com drivers have signed up.
Sunday is show up early and run. No preregister needed.
Maybe we can expect Brett H. Matt A. 69 Camaro and Charles 2nd gen Camaro to join our 7 regulars ,Sunday along with the other 150 you know will be there
Some of you have joined clubs for points and to be more apart of the event. This is a Scnax hosted SCCA event. So if your SCNAX you work. That means Track set up( sometimes Friday afternoon or 5:30 am Saturday.Tech guys for 90 plus cars.Registration, Working extra run groups if needed.Redoing the course Saturday evening."Working during FUN RUNS!""OUCH" tear down of course and pack in trailer.THEN You get Pizza and Beer at the local Pizza Joint...:) :)and alot of Bench racing with pages of unofficial race results.
So if your SCNAX ,,Warren L plans how to put the event on ,and where he needs the help.He probably puts in 24 plus hours at the stadium for SCNAX events. So let him know your there to help

After checking the event out more than 6 times my truck is finally running. Last month I spoke with Dan W and someone else about entering the event. I couldn't remember what was required of me and how I go about joining? Do I just show up sat morning and ask?

08-13-2013, 09:48 AM
You probably talked to me..For Saturday it's a preregister event limited to around 90 cars.If that number isn't reached by presign up.Cars will be allowed in at 8 am Saturday.I think cut off for mail in is today. Not sure. For more info on Saturday you can go to SDR-SCCA.com/solo2 Forum Practice list SCNAX aug17.
Your second choice would be to run sunday.Show up by 10am meet with the same guys as last time. You will walk right threw signup and tech and course walk with them. You also have to signup to work the course.Plan for 10am to 3:30 plus for time involved. You can also run morning 7:30am to 12:30 ish.
20.00 for weekend trial membership.40.00 to race 10 plus laps on Saturday.Sunday 30.00 for 4 laps and at.end of day you pay 5.00 for 3 laps.most just pay another 10..you could get more then 10 laps that day to.but sometimes all you get is the 4.It depends on turnout and how smooth the event goes.

Sorry I haven't been out to any local events gang. Looks like the next stuff I do will be out in Nebraska in a couple weeks at the National Championships.
I run 265-18 square on 18x9 (both the limits of the class..think I could probably fit 285-18 on 18x10 if allowed) with a stock chassis and body'd car in STX.
On the left are shaved 200TW Dunlop Direzza Z2's (better if it is cool or wet out), middle is 140TW Yokohama AD08 (what I had been running), right is shaved unmounted Hankook RS3s (better when it's hot).

That will be great Matt.. This eventing I went to check out the La Mesa Cruise night..I saw a 2nd gen firebird with the full Pro-Touring set up. He Told me he just finished the wiring yesterday..Then he told me I didn't build it for shows I built it to run....LOl I gave him a flyer to this weekend..DARK BLue Like Grabber But much darker.Mark is going to love this Also a 66 Chevelle. on the same tires as Mark's.His name is Osker..He's been planning to run it. Good to hear from you Jason..Jasons the man with a plan when it comes to car builds and Tire choices..:)
Good data Jason..Few know whats best with tires in these vintage muscle, when new brands come up.

Next year there will be even more testing to do, with the new Yokohama AD08R and the Bridgestone RE11A. Both 200 treadwear. Lots of great options for the Pro-Touring community.

Just some results below between two different tire tests:
In this one the Rival and Dunlop Z2 bested the Yokohama Ad08R and Bridgestone Re11:
"As I look at some of the intial dry times it looks like it the tires came out in the dry as follows:
1. & 2. Tool Close to call between the ZII and the Rival. Times will need to be average out. I personally preferred and ran my fastest lap on the Rival.
3. AD08R
4. RE11A
Average Laps times look like they will be with-in 4 10ths of a second on are 30 second Auto X between the four. Again these are intial looks and could be different versus the offical Tire Rack report. The ZII, Rival and AD08R are very close with the Bridgestone not very far behind. I want to point out that are testing was done on the BMW's on a short Auto X. Weather was realitively cool the day I tested around mid 70's."
In another test on a BMW, the Michelin Super Sport and Yokohama beat the Dunlop Z1 and Hankook RS3 but not by much. The Toyo R1R was way behind those 4.
Autocross times:
DUNLOP Star Spec Z1 60.2
HANKOOK RS3 60.3
MICHELIN Super Sport 59.9
TOYO R1R 61.2
Yokohama AD08 59.7
Both these tests were run by Tire Rack.
Ill be testing Michelin Super Sports VS Falken RT615K head to head on the Mustang tomorrow.

Yep, the car has yet to do a local event. First event was the SD National Tour, then the El Toro ProSolo, then the Farmington ProSolo, next event will be the Pro Finale.
Come to think of it, I haven't attended a non-National event in over 3 years. Just don't have the time! Oh well.
I am looking forward to attending the {} to the Coast events at El Toro, especially now that my SCCA tires are 200 treadwear.

the falcon has a stiffer front sway bar and stiffer front springs. I raised the rear roll center and lowered the car a little bit more. All to try and reduce body roll. On my build thread you can see the pics, I am lifting the inside tires at different points during the turn.
Raise RC + lower Cg = less roll
Increase front roll stiffness = less roll.
We shall see. I may get less roll but raise my times, that's why we autocross.

8105381054We had a great turnout of PT cars yesterday.6 PTs plus a inline 4 turbo Merkur and Fox Body Stang all in SU
Dan W's Hotchkiss Challenger lead the way in SU but was beat in laptime at the end by Matt A in the 69 Camaro. Then word that Matt hit a Cone.Dan was Victorious in SU! That's 2 wins in a row for Dan.I don't know who finished 3rd.You guys can give the play by play on that.
Tom's 2013 5.0 Stang fought his way in ESP .Closing the gap on the leader in ESP to I think half a second.A win last time.
Brett 1999 Stang in SM fought new suspension mod blues and maybe over aggressive driving style. Some "Fun Runs" and advice from others cured some of the Over aggressive driving Style.I pushed to hard in some turns myself .I heard Bryce said he was over driving his 65 Falcon to.
Come to our events and you will get plenty of good advice for what makes you fast.96% of the time.:)

I wish it was overdriving lol. I was too scared that I was going to overdrive it during the 4 timed runs that I didn't run it hard enough. The car had plenty of grip, Jonathan was yelling at me because I was braking way too much for what the car is capable of, and he was right. just by not braking as much I dropped my time down 1.5 seconds. god only knows what I'll do once I find the limit of the grip, I still have not reached it!

That's what I meant Brett.by dicy and choppy..I can see you kept taming to hard on the brakes...I only had 4 braking areas.Left turn down hill from start. then end of slalom then before next left and the next left kink. just lifting in a couple others. So many braking spots in the last events..I see how it could cause bad habits..

The story of what might be the controversial win or cone of SU last weekend.Matt had a great lap going.I could see it was a winning lap.I was working the course near the finish. The spot where a cone tipped over when Matt passed by.As soon as I saw the backside of his 69 Camaro I saw the cone tipping over. The body of the car most likely never hit the cone.A tire (315s) may of caught a edge of the cone springing it up lightly and tipping it over.Could Matt been going fast enough to blow the cone over?It was a area where you lifted before full throttle. It's possible. It's been 3 days and I'm still thinking about it..
SCCA cone pentalty rules are.If a cone is knocked out of it's box or tipped over in it's box 2 seconds is added to the lap time.If a cone slides more then half way out of the box but not out of the box,it is still upright there will be no pentlety. This is for air moving the cone or the lucky ones who hit a cone and it lands upright in the box.
I'm sure this was part of the bench racing afterwords.
Dan Help us out..I can't find the Unofficial results myself.I'm tired of passwords for everything..Some one post SU,SM And ESP results here...BTW Top finishers in SU-Pro-Touring were just more then a second off winged 40 tread wear sticky tire SM and SMF winning cars .But get this Jeff C in a stock Miata on Street tires maybe Rivals did a 40.xxx second something.Thats hard to report on this site.

Many possibilities, some stand up trophies to placks ,to coffee cups ,some with a photo of your car.Sweat shirts one of my favorite trophies was a helmet bag.It was nicely made with embroidery of SOLO2 SCCA and my name and birthday..I won on my birthday. So it was cool..I left it behind one day with helmet in it..never saw it again.

I did raise the rear RC. I did not like it, rear was loose on corner exit and I still had too much body roll. The last event I increased my front springs from 400 to 500. This time I will raise the rears from 225 to 300 and lower the rear RC.
The front stopped pushing. I just need to get the car easier to drive and then LEARN to drive.

I plan to make the next SO CAL Challenge up north( Camarillo).Sounds like another fun group to run with! Also if some are interested there is a Cal Club SCCA event in El Toro coming up.They switch back and forth between California Speedway Parking Lot and El Toro for their events. for their events go to "SOLO2.com" simple :)
Our next San Diego SCCA event is Sept 22 next weekend. What will be different then most of this years events ,is the race class schedule. PT-SU, SM class and ESP Class will now race in the morning..So sleeping in is over for last few months.Dan W with the drive he makes never got to sleep in.Now Dan even earlier you have to get up.I'm glade you enjoy our events enough to make the trip out..:)plus the cool cars you bring!
SU-PT,SM classes WORK GROUP 1 Run 2.I'd say be there before 8am 7:30 if your changing tires. You have to walk course,Register, Tech before 8:50am... In the mornings there is a register line that can take 20 minutes to get through. Just Giving Heads Up on it.
ESP Class Work 2 run 3 I suggest 8am, earlier if changing tires to avoid being rushed. first thing walk the course you can wait till 9am to register and tech if you want..BUT you must walk the course before course walk is closed at 8:50.YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RUN IN MORNING IF YOU DON"T WALK THE COURSE.SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE! You can sign up for later in the afternoon to.As none class X or another class that fits your Car/Truck
Members pay 30.00 none members pay 50.00, 20.00 of that is for trial weekend membership. The 20 is a payment for a membership if you choose to be a member in 2 months time.
30.00 gets you 4 laps with additional laps at end of day at 3 laps for 5.00 time permitting."FUN RUNS" more then 10 laps are possible at this event. The Good Guys Del Mar( November) is only a couple months from now.WE have a few autocross days before then.TRack time is the best way to bring down LAP TIMES.

Brett you were working the course during my laps right? Was I braking to hard at the end of the downhill straight.Right before the left/right into the slalom.I was never able to see that part of the course.
BTW Are you planning on seeing the movie RUSH this weekend.?
I worked the first session not yours, so I didn't get to see you through the downhill.
Not this weekend, gotta wait for my girlfriend to come home from school again, she wants to see it with me.

Who's ready for the Nation wide opening of the "RUSH" Ron Howard Movie. Friday Sept 27 It's getting great reviews.more then 80% positive.some give it a 100 or a
5 star.Oscar potential.
If you want to know more about these guys before seeing the movie or convince someone to go.Youtube "When Playboys Ruled The World" If James Hunt was that hot maybe that will get the Ladies to go.It's nearly a hour long... For the race story."Hunt vs Lauda The Greatest Racing Rivalry" 59 minute version. These videos are pretty entertaining full of real video
After seeing the movie now.It doesn't have all the details found in the "Hunt vs Laud The Greatest Racing Rivalry..that I was hoping for.Like Ron Howard said you would need a mini series to get it all. Also you can't film action like Grand Prix 1966 anymore..to much liability issues.Still a great movie!

What I saw at the SDR-SCCA.com/solo2 Forum Practice list is Brett M ,Mark G in Group A,,,,,, Gerald L in Group B No listing if that is the work group or run group. So I don't know if you guys made changes.
What I didn't noticed at the online signup .Is the 93 DB DQ warning? Must be under 93 DB 50ft from course..Around 9 laps for a practice day.More if there is time for "FUN RUNS"Also at the online signup was FREE OVERNIGHT CAMPING FOR ENTRIES! Qualcomm Stadium Parking lot.I knew you can do it, didn't know it was okay to announce it..More reason for folks from out of town to come down for both days.If Gerald L is who we think it is. I bet he is planning for both days.
I'll be signing up for both days to probably group c .During the weekend I hope to see the Vintage Chevy Truck and a Few vintage Camaros we know of.Plus a 66 Fairlane.Wheres that brushed Metal 63 Falcon?I think there is another 69 Mustang wanting to join the group to..Chad?

good point haha. what class are you planning on running the Valiant in? Thanks to Agent 47 supplying parts for next season I'm going to be either forced into CP or SU. Only problem I have with CP is that wings are not allowed and I can't take the wing off since it was donated by Roush-Yates lol

honestly that's the dilemma I'm having though. I would love to go CP but the wing problem is a big one. And I'd go SU but I don't want to step on anybody's toes by doing so. I have to make a decision for next year because I know one thing is for certain, the car is going be way over the line for SM and I really don't want to drive a car that could be protested for illegal mods.

Brett in SM your car can still be street enjoyed.Once in CP you will be tempted to strip the interior and add plastic side windows ,I like CP though. If you can get enough guys commited to CP.Then have it back to being a stand alone class again would be cool. It's hard to get guys in CP and be close enough in lap time to our fast XP cars to win the PAX index. ( P1=XP,FP,CP in SDR PAX Combined class) an CP guys don't like the 93 DB limit.Entries tends to build on entries Like we have seen in SM.One or 2 in that class a year ago.If you add SM and the PT guys that jumped into SU..You would have a 16 plus class some events. With PT guys SM body and interior rules open frame rules 78 and older 200tw 4 seat.Plus other ideas to welcome Guys doing Good Guys and other related events. Some of the places they already run have a under 93 DB limit. So are perfect fit for trick Muscle cars at our event!
Anyway I haven't signed up for Practice Oct19.But come Saturday morning I'll be there just to see if I can get in.If not that's fine .Stadium is 10 minutes from me.
There will be some interesting cars.Gerald Lum will have his 71 Camaro and a Home built car being called a Bilinski "Midlana" to check out. Both are featured in YOUTUBE videos

The bigger plan for my car is to run NASA American Iron or NASA TT. So the car is going to be gutted anyway. I don't want to get stuck on being in SM when I'm building the car for road racing. CP would be perfect for me if they allowed wings but they don't. Classing is a bummer because there's really no home for a setup aggressive as mine except for SU and that's not a nationally prepared class.

trust me it's not that I want to rain on what you guys have in SU. I have absolutely no where else to go with the amount of mods I have. if you guys went to your own PT class as you mentioned I'd have no problem going to SU, because I wouldn't feel like I was stepping on your guys' toes and taking away from the rivalry you guys are having in class. but with everything be done to the car SM is not possible and CP is not possible without upsetting the companies who sent me parts. We'll see what happens after the last event this year, that's when in going to have to make a decision on where to go. Until then I'm going to try and bring home at least 1 1st place in SM lol

Everything I've done to this point is legal for American Iron. Only thing I'd have to do is add some weight ballast because the car is too light to make the power to weight ratio for the class. The power to weight and tires used are really the only limitation for the AI class.

I have a 4-point bar right now as a base, but yes, Agent 47 told me whenever I'm ready to bring the car over. It's going to come out of that shop completely transformed...
Ironically, what will be gained from the cage, will be lost on the doors alone. cutting out all the weight from the doors is 80lbs on each door, not to mention replacing all the window glass with lexan :)
Again though, I'm not sure what I'm going to do exactly. I know I can't stay in SM, I can't remove my wing, and I don't want to piss off any of you guys in SU. Kind of stuck at this point lol.

It will be good to see you at the track again Bryce..We may have a new regular in ADAM. Already a SCCA member (If I remember correctly).A great looking 71 Charger.
The event will be put on by SDAD SCCA on the west lot Qualcomm.Sounds like a fun maybe fast track already.
Dan W has started another thread,It pretty much is SCCA SM class word for word. It's made it easy for many PT racers to read the SCCA class that fits most pro-touring cars. Not for everyone that is never easy.THe SCCA offers many classes for the same car.You just pick the mod package you like best.Or create a bigger group by FS,STX,ESP classes all running in SM at your local SCCA event. For SCCA classes from stock to super heavily modified would be(allowing muscle cars)
FS STX ESP SM CP XP most would say just FS ESP SM CP
For there to be a PT class in San Diego.A good number of cars need to appear regularly from now to june. Then talks about it.Agree on class build rules. No need to ask for it if there isn't.Keep the cars coming for a SDR Board meeting vote no later then September.
For further chat on this.Respond at Dan's DTM RACING SM-V thread ..
We like seeing the cars you bring to our events. Look forward to seeing more!

Next event is Dec 7th.On the west lot.Our favorite large lot! The Last event results are now posted at SDR-SCCA.com/solo2.WE had 172 entries and we have reached that several times this year..
Last weekend was Good Guys Del Mar.Some of the guys also racing with us did well.Rich got his Mustang back from HOTCHKIS R&D.He finished 6th in Street Machine.Tom won on sunday in All American Sunday for all years. With that event being all muscle cars.We are expecting 4 maybe 5 more cars to join us at SCCA SDR Qualcomm.Keep a look out at our next event for a shiny light blue second gen Camaro.a shiny grey GTO,a 68 Chevelle.65or66 Mustang ragtop.
I counted 13 guys there that have already raced with us.2 didn't have their cars there, that would be Bryce and Tyler. If all these guys showed up with their cars plus a few more. That would be pretty cool.I knew there's 15 plus PT cars out there that want to autocross in San Diego.IF YOUR NEW TO THIS THREAD,YOU WANT TO AUTOCROSS WITH US SAY HELLO.
Also 172 enteries doesn't mean it takes you all day to get in your laps.It will take roughly 1 hour to get 4 laps(Plan for 7:30 to 11am if in SU class). You can buy more or wait till after 3pm.Then they are offered for 3laps for 5.00 time permitting FUN RUNS.Dec7 is 30.00 for 4 laps.20.00 for weekend membership. You have 60 days to deside if that 20.00 goes towards full membership.65.00 to be a member. We can get you more then 15.00 off that.If you ask... (15 events a year, half are 2 day).
If you want to run with the Vintage Pro-Touring(SU class). They are running in the morning this event. So be there at 7:30am.Tempt membership,Register for event,Tech inspection," Novice walking a 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile course required for yours and our safety".All has to happen before 8:45.At 9am you will be working the course with the PT guys.Running your cars after. You will finish the event around11am.Or stay for more laps. Class ESP and SM could be your other choices..You can also show up at 11:30am and still enter. WE do have a required Helmet .WE have loaners.ANY QUESTIONS? We want to get them here to help you out.
Also next event is a SCNAX Club hosted event.I'm in SCNAX club and so are a few of you. That means be there at 6:30am to help out.or contact Warren and ask how you can help. There is also a tear down at end of day. Then Italian restaurant AND BEER.Free to SCNAX Members

Yes we do race in the rain. And some drivers and cars like it. Like PETER Bee in this pic..Sometimes it delays the start,If it just pours down then it gets questionable.I've been out there working the course with water flowing around my shoes. It didn't stop us that time..lol..You will be out in the rain so dress for it.
I heard some forecast for mostly cloudy scattered light rain.Heavy late afternoon.30% chance of rain.AOL.com. the others didn't sound so good...:)
Any chance I gave you a flyer 2 weeks ago.?

The Holidays are almost over,In 4 weeks our San Diego SCCA Events will start up at Qualcomm stadium..:) :)
Before autocross season starts one of my favorite races will take place ."The DAKAR RALLY RAID" It's no longer in Africa but South America for last few years.5000 plus miles of offroad racing. It includes many days in the sand dunes ,bigger then any you would find in Glamis,or Dumond etc.A 30 minute update will be on NBCsports every day for 2 weeks. So if you like building your own car like many of you do.You will get hooked on this real reality program.NO FAKES! to run in what the call they car class reall its Trucks,SUVs and Buggies.(Their Truck class are truly big trucks)You can choose to build a limited wheel travel 4x4 with limited tire size or a 2 wheel drive with larger tires and more wheel travel with tire inflation adjustments on board. The American drivers that build and race their own cars choose 2wd ,,Factory and Europe teams choose 4x4..So who will you be routing for Robby Gordon ,BJ Baldwin in their 2wd or the foreign teams in their 4x4s Good USA Motorcycle riders in that class to.
Check out Dakar.com you can GPS track your favorite driver and his rivals. planetrobby.com youtube anything on it

I'm going to be running the miata on saturdays and saving the roush for sunday. good way to learn how to drive a momentum based car on saturday then an out of control monster on sunday lol.
Happy new year by the way everybody!
So the Solo Committee meeting is this upcoming Monday, 7pm at C2. The issue of CAM will be brought up. Those who have a say in how we organize it should be there. I'll be there and hope to see some of you guys. If you want to just send someone to advocate for you guys (George?) you can. SCNAX's club rep (Rae) has been following the thread and there could be some discussion by the other clubs about how it's organized. I'm not sure how heated the debate will get (I doubt it will at all), but it seems from the SDR forum that 79 and older is a logical cutoff.
All this being said, my assumption is that you guys are carefully watching to see what CAM looks like for 2014, so perhaps better overkill than sorry. Everyone is welcome but PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CHAIRS. Or stand.
BTW, hope you guys don't mind me stealing a photo for our next event :D

I'm going to show up to give support. Really want to make sure my year is included and see if we can loosen up the weight rule with tire or engine size being smaller like SM or CP. If the weight stays at 3000 I can just make my car a lot less nose heavy.

01-04-2014, 10:36 PM
FRom what I've heard weight includes driver in this case... I don't know if that's the case in SM or CP..something for you guys to research..If it's car and driver then cars are 2800ish.. I'm on the fence on that. So you can start eating donuts and pancakes every morning or wait a little while..:).

An option to consider is allowing the lighter cars in, so long as their wheels/tires are kept under a certain size.
Example:
3000+: unlimited (though I do think fronts should be limited to 285s on 10's, even here)
2500-2999: 275's on 10's
2200-2499: 225's on 8's
There can be massaging from there, but the key point is there are more flexible ways of maintaining tire load parity, than a singular weight restriction. SD can be the trailblazer for showing the rest of the country how it's done...

Those allowances work for me and was what I was thinking. Not sure what the big muscle guys would think of those ranges. I'm roughly ~2800 and on 205s and most likely getting 225s for this year. Been dreaming of getting 17" wheels to move up to 255 or 275. Jason keeps me legal with all my options and I have room for more weight reduction. thanks Jason! lol

I think anything under 2700 is less CAM PT Muscle car and more SM Class.Do I have to go into my SM stuff again? lol Cars can drop weight if only on 275tire or smaller. just use 200 to 260.Thats all you have to say."change 200 to 260"Sweet and short...:) It's up to you guys I don't have a car in the race.I'm okay with CP weights&liters(2700 to 3000plus) with tire restriction size on lighter cars .Something close to a 275 is all Bryce and Alcino want on their light 5.0 pushrod cars.Correct?
After Monday I won't feel I have to repeat myself anymore. yeppie!

This is what a Classic American Muscle(CAM) car would represent in my opinion https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/102846-San-Diego-Region-SCCA-Street-Modified-%28Vintage%29-Rules
The cars with LS engines, custom chassis, non factory suspension/steering pickup points etc. should have there own class called Modified American Classics(MAC)

The rule didn't specify weight with driver so I assumed without. If that's the interpretation then I may qualify with a big meal before my runs. This year we should try to allow as much vintage iron in the class as possible to first prove our numbers. Then we can think of making more rules to cut classes up. To me the most important levelers in autox is tire compound, tire width, and vehicle weight. Big motors can't do much more with street tires than a small motor so who cares. So I'm going to propose leave the rules as is with the addition of tire width 275 or less -200lbs, tire 225 or less -400lbs. That way the cheater open wheel hot rods can play just not with 315+ wide tires.

Whats proposed has to be something you all agree on.THey don't want to make dessions for you .Just a yes that sounds good.and a little Debate..I wouldn't even go into 225 tires. Most of the Miatas use bigger then that.I know that's all your getting on the Mustang 2. You have to admit it is small.I'm under tired at 225.I think all but Matt is under 275 .Maybe some 285.
Then again SM covers this just tweak the formula .Or say CP weight rules just add 275 tires for 2700 pound spec..which is 5 liter and under( nice if it only was pushrod 5.0).Jason R you might even agree with that.255 limit if you want.
Plus SDR doesn't offer scales for local events. There are scale available that can be borrowed. That would be more of a test of who is the truly the honest gentlemen racer..:) Bryce even has Scales ,PIZZA and BEER parties..:) So if your cheating we take you out back and pelt you with empty beer bottles.
And weight should without driver that's how it is in CP and SM.Open wheel formulas is with driver.I got that info from Brian H driver of the CP/PT/CAM Camaro...:) I could of read it in the book But I'm feeling lazy.

Well CAM is now set in stone for San Diego Region 2014. Tom represented us well and after some "discussion" with the board it was agreed to keep the rules as presented in the draft rule book and deciding to make it one class of 1978 and older cars. I personally showed up just to make sure the year selected worked for me. Now the most important thing to do is to prove our numbers. Tom challenged me to make the "pledge of 10". That's the promise to enter at least 10 events this year. That seemed to be the magic number to be deemed a regular by some members present at the meeting. Hopefully many more here can also take on the challenge and join in on the fun.
Tom showed up to the meeting wearing this Cam Newton shirt. Coincidence? Or just awesome!

You guys may of heard already that you will be getting a PAX index of 0.830. Some PT guys are excited about that. That's a light PAX meaning good. It's the same as FS on Roadtires 200tw tires.FSR( How long will that last?)When you ran SU. The PAX index for SSM was used. When you look at the results. Finals is for your classes.INDEX for looking at everyone that ran in a class that has been PAXED.THis is how you can judge your driving against all drivers no matter what class they run.I hope I'm not scaring anyone already? 98 % of us like #...LOL
You probably know how the math works already but here is example of how it's changed things.
When using the SSM PAX for SU.The CAM driver would show up near the bottom of the list.
Nov 3 Mark G you were 118 out of 156 competitors.with 0.830 your 74th out of 156.
The guys running in Champion PAX class are probably getting nervous..:)

At our SAC meeting on Tuesday, it was brought up several times by the regular veterans that they thought the PAX was too generous (even saying specifically they didn't want to give me any more than they had too).
I took that as saying that I must have made an impression on them the last few events last season and they now recognize me as a legit competitor. :git:
I've never paid attention to PAX before as the SM PAX sucked. Should be different this year though.

That's very possible for the tour.I think we will have that answer by end of the Month.Maybe sooner.Do you have more then one car to choose from?BTW our CAM is 78 and older
In last few years no one has run in CP at our Tour(I take that back ,We had Desertfox firbird). So that's another possibility for a CAM if it fits that class.
Some of our SDR CAM members may not know. There isn't "No class Xruns" in SOLO2 National Tour. You have to be within the rules and in a class.AS approved by SCCA and Region. I haven't seen any interest in our Tour by our Cam drivers .Alcino did, He came to check it out last year.So we'll see in a few weeks.

98685 Someone bring a challenger for Brett. This Mustang has ran in SM class, CP class .Now our local Street Unlimited Class . Has 1st placed in all..CP full time next year. This is our fastest Muscle car in San Diego Probably a top 4 out of our 200 entries per event. SCCA Autocross has Racing Classes for Muscle cars and has for many many years. From stock and several classes up to this one.ESP class is like a middle class between Stock and what you see in the picture here,Yes stock cars can run in ESP.

894599458[/ATTACH]894578945689455WE had a great turnout for our first SDR SCCA event of the year.186 enteries!Several first timers. The ones that get noticed drive what you don't see on the road much anymore.Like 1st and 2nd gen Camaros or a 1970 GTO Pontiac. At 1st events of the year you get to see what your fellow racers have been working on during the off season. Some of our Vintage Muscle car drivers using CAM for the first time .Also Brett's 1999 Mustang after it's upgrades. It's run as a SM,then a SU so is it CP next?It was the Fastest V8 at the Q. So Is there anyone else with room for 315 Hoosiers and V8 powered that could challenge him? Hmmm..
Next event 15th and 16th 45.00 for Saturday practice "Mail in signup filling fast 80 driver limit",,You can divide that in half and share the laps with a co driver.Add 15.00 for insurance for Co Driver. Sunday 30.00.. add 20.00 for the weekend membership if not a member of SCCA.
Looks like Mark GRA is signed up for Saturdays practice group B.ANYONE ELSE?
CAM and SM run in the morning.7:30am is a goodtime to be there Sunday, ESP and CP run afternoon so 10:30am is a goodtime to show up

89548Results are out So here they are.I moved Brett to his Dream spot..:) The classes that allow a lot of mods had a big turn out this event.CAM wasn't the largest SMF was.A guy in ESP had you beat Brett. You know there is a few seconds more out of the Stang.
I don't think friends I bring to the event will ask me ,"Is this a Import event" anymore. We had a good mix of all kinds of fun cars to drive at the event.
Brett I'm wondering if Brian's XP was scuffing in new Hoosiers.Peter was close to his lap time.

Just 2 DBs try some insulated or baffled tail pipes.Rick Perry ran Super Trapps on his 66 Vett.I've been using a cheap 24.00 Baffled tail pipe from PEP BOYs.After putting in the 13B. Same exhaust and Dellorto Carb that was on my 12A.I went from 88DBs to 93.5 at 3 events. The tail pipe knocks it back to 87db.It's a quick fix when I need it.A insulated tail pipe might be all I need to keep it under 93db.But when I have the Holley 600 Tuned for the Rotary I know it will be 3 db louder maybe more. The 750 was real loud but to much CARB for my stock porting.
(93 db limit at 50 ft is San Diego SCCA agreement for use of the stadium.)
Next event is next weekend

I still pax'd 39th overall with SU's terrible PAX index. Don't worry George I'm only going to get faster and faster and by next year when i do plan on jumping into the P1 battle, it's going to be a good fight, lots to do in the mean time though ;).
As far as Peter and Brian go, Peter was on r-comps this event not street tires. So it makes sense that he was so close to beating Brian, that car was faster than everyone in SM by 2 seconds on street tire, let alone now he's on r-comps haha.

Brett,
I'm just curious why your still in SU after we all left. BTW congrats on your first there, but you would have gotten first in SM too. Is there a reason why your not in SM or XP? I figured your wing keeps you out of CP but like George said take the wing off and your in the fight for top pax if that matters to you. I think if I had your car I would try to fit it into SM. Lots of competition and its fast enough to win. Maybe you have another angle I'm not seeing or you don't care where the car lands as long as you can mod it to your hearts content.

The interior is gutted. I ran SM last year since it still had all of the interior weight still. Not to mention I was taking a lot of flak last year for mods on the car that were not legal in that class. SU, I have free range and CP I only have a couple of easy modifications to do and that's it.

4 days of events this July and 2 in August... sdrscca.com for info also Facebook San Diego SCCA Autocross...I'm suggesting if you have a 1979 or newer Mustang ,Camaro ,Cuda ETC Muscle Car.Run in E-Street Prepared class(ESP) even if your stock. It's a class little used in SD.It really favors Muscle cars the best that aren't extreme builds. That's when SM or CP classes come in.Read the classing info on TEXT 7 this thread..You can think of ESP as 4 seater Late Model CAM Limited with more tire options.SM,CP could be Late Model CAM unlimited with some midsize plus imports mixed in ESP,.All 3 National Classes//even STU class.
I'll answer questions here or take phone calls to help out.Private message also...Our Vintage CAM is 1978 and older class. It's unlimited in it's rules pretty much.So Vintage cars can run CAM or choose not to. It's up to you .Vintage CAM in San Diego has stayed pretty competitive and entertaining. So who's next for monthly even twice a month autocross.?
The Orange ESP Classed BOSS,The L stands for ladies class.Ladies don't have to run against the men if they don't want to. THe Blue BOSS is A-Stock..We Give you Classing choices so you can find your Competitive edge ,Standard stock GT would be FS..in ESP,, FS and AS classed Mustangs are joined together..AH! Wheres the Camaros.Challengers and Impalas
