I am between 3 engines on a 67 mustang rebuild....please let me know your opinions, and pricing estimates that I have
1...31 stroker engine which would get me about the same horsepower as
the 5lb charger would provide and eliminate the need for a supercharger. The
5 lb vortec superchargers are loud ( I like it but some don't)
2...Engine option 2/ If you want to bump up your budget... The 8 lb charger is
quiet gives more horsepower and requires a Dyno tune session adding an
additional $700.00 in Dyno time an upgraded fuel delivery add 500.00, and
burning a chip for the computer. The 8lb charger is also an additional
$1000.00 over the 5lb So it would require an additional $2200.00 total
additional investment.
Engine option 3/ The budget buster last option would be build a 331 stroker
with an 8lb charger and it would be bad ass!! Additional cost $4200.00

Sort of depends what you want the car for... DD, street/strip, drags, autoX, shows... AND do you have a good running 302 now? Sounds like it with the supercharger love.
If you stroke it go 347 (or 427 Windsor). No need for 331.
Decide on the hp level and build the rest of the car to it (brakes, trans, rear, frame, etc)

why not give the 302 some turbo love?
with the boost options, be aware that the stock ford blocks WILL split down the lifter valley with anything realistically over 11-12 lbs of boost. Most of em are good for 450-500 at the rear wheels. After that you're in dart or boss block territory.

I'm sure this has some Shelby markup on it but too rich for my blood: http://www.shelbyengines.com/products/shelby-427-h-750hp-motor

For what I understand and have gathered from some reliable sources; the 302 will split at 450-500hp, a 351 W will take closer to 700-750hp. There people running serious boost/HP number on stock block 351W.
My vote is 351W based motor.Better rod-piston ratio, than a 331 or 347, and there no replacement for displacement.Though it is taller and an inch wider, engine compartment, hood clearance areissues. Turbo it, same money to rebuild.

Well, once you get out of the Windsor families and into some unique stuff, the price of entry does climb rapidly. The Boss Nine set ups are similarly expensive, but also unique. Guess it just depends on how different you want to be.
