Best Big Block Headers For 1st Gen Camaro???

Sometime over the winter I will be playing musical engines with our Chevelle convertible and my '68 Camaro at D&Z Customs with Randy Johnson. I need some input from our group on what the best header is for a 1st gen with a big block. The engine going in the Camaro is a 496 with Brodix Race-Rite oval port heads with factory height exhaust ports so I dont need anything super trick. I just want something that fits well, has decent spark plug access, and most importantly good ground clearance. I'd love to have a set of Lemons Pro-Touring headers, but they are not in the budget right now.
Please let me know what your thoughts are.

I had a 496 BBC in my 69 camaro and used Hooker Super Comp headers part number 2205. I would recommend against using them. They were about 1/8" away from the steering box. I used the correct factory BBC frame stands and motor mounts that Hooker recommends. I was running Brodix BB2 Plus heads which I believe had a .900" raised exhaust port. But IMO this helped the fitment. If using the stock heads, I think the headers would have hit the steering box. I have seen their 2 1/8" and 2 1/4" primary tube headers on a first gen and they both fit better than the 2" primaries I had.

Had a set of Heddmans on my BB Camaro, but had too many exhaust leaks. I have a set of Hooker Super Comps (2205's) That were never run that I'll deliver to Elburn. Sending them back to Jegs on Friday. PM me if you're interested.

I hate Hedman but that is what I have on my car. Why? They were on there when I bought it and when I put the car back together they had freakishly good ground clearance, access and did not hit anything. So, I had them Jet Hot coated and called it a day. Super Comps are good and of course so are Lemons, but I went with what was working at the time. I'm not even sure which Hedman they are.

Do you know what your primary tube and collector sizes are? That may be an easy way to identify which part number header you are using.

Chris, I think they are 1 7/8ths but I didn't pay much attention to them. Like I said they fit so darn well I did not want to talk myself out of them. If the OP is interested PM me and I will def get a measurement.

after all the money you have spent on the car, why go cheap on the headers, great engine package and you would choke it to death with an off the shelf header. I got a chance to meet Randy and Jimmy this summer at GG in Des Moines. Two great guys....save the coin and do some headers that are worthy of your project.....
