So I haven't posted much on this forum, i usually just stare at all the fabrication work going on in this forum and try to figure out how I'm going to improve my skills enough to be able to attempt some of the ideas i see and like here. That being said i've worked for a body shop several years, went to mechanic school, restored with a few extras a 66 mustang, helped my cousin assemble his bracket racing big stroke "small block" fairlane, worked for years as a dealership and several other automotive jobs. That being said over the years I've met a lot of guys who love to throw around these lofty horsepower numbers from lightly modified engines. I figured this would be a decent shot to here any other stories of people who fell short of their claims.
That being said, I currently work on an ambulance as a paramedic which also has a couple of RN's staffed for critical care transports. Our male nurse took ownership yesterday of a 2013 Nissan 370Z Nismo edition. Apparently they are going to release a Nismo "R" version which is what he had this car spec'd to through the dealership since he ordered it built 6 months ago. It's a great looking car and looks like a blast to drive so i was kind of curious what type of power they were getting out of that 3.7 v6 these days. I knew a little bit about the 350'z engine so i'd figured they made some improvements. I was really amazed when he told me it was a 500hp car, from the factory. Well needless to say i had him open the hood to see the engine while it was running, no boost, no high end parts, just a twin tube intake system,a oil cooler, brakes and an exhaust from what i could tell, not even a good cam lope. I didn't have the heart to tell him there is almost no chance Nissan is producing a mid class sports car that is faster than their high end skyline, not to mention the lack of boost on a somewhat small engine.
So this may not be the place for it, it may even be a childish discussion, but no one else at my work knows a single thing about cars. They all think its some $100k super car, and i couldnt find a single thing online to back that claim. So lets hear the funny car stories. Apparently horsepower is cheap and easy to make these days.:smoke:

Well, actually horsepower is cheap and easy to make these days and 500 horse small blocks are becoming the new norm. However, to the average car buying public, every sports/muscle/hot rod type car is percieved at a minimum of 500 horses, whether it is true of not.

Yep, the 370Z nismo is around 350hp, which is impressive for that engine with no boost support. Nice cars, but you could get so much more for the same money elsewhere is HP is driving the purchase.
