Read all the threads about the various ways to mount speakers in the kicks on a 1st gen Camaro/Firebird. Lots of nice aftermarket and custom ways to mount either a 6 1/2 or a 4x6 in the vent hole. But I have never seen what "appears" to me to be the simplest way to do it. Since it looks like a 6 1/2 or a 4x6 will fit the vent hole, why not just simply use a normal speaker baffle in the hole to protect the speaker from water ??? Seems in expensive and easy to do. Or am I missing something ??? If you wanted a little extra strength you could always add a little fiberglass. Just thinkin ...

If you pull the kick panel off (passenger side is easiest) you will see there is an opening in the body closer to the door opening than the Vent opening is. This is the actual location for the Stock Kick Panel speakers from the factory. Their cutouts in the kick panels were pretty crude, and the stock cover is 4x6 and you can fit modern 4x6 speakers in that area with out any issues as long as they don't have massive magnets or excessive depth to them. I've used a set is Bazooka's and a set if Infinity's in this location.

I use a dual speaker set up in the dash, tweeters mounded in the A-Pillar trim up high, (planning on hiding some speakers above the rear armrest/top well area where the top frame folds into on the sides. I've seen this done successfully) I have ported speaker boxes I'm building for the 6x9's firing forward through the top mechanisms and Subs in the trunk area with the amps. Even with out the additional rear seat area speakers, it sounds quite good even on the freeway with the top down... It will only get better as I finish it up... Just never enough time or money...

I had Bass Shakers under the front seats for a while and while they worked well, it was not the same as a good thumping sub.

Hope this gives you some Ideas? (Good to see ya 67 455!)
