Have I made a stupid mistake by switching from conventional motor oil to Rotella 15w 40 synthetic on my odd ball 1985 BMW 524TD(turbo diesel)? Ive been running the Rotella for about 7k miles and all appears fine, I happened to mention it to a neighbor and he became all serious about the switch. He claims it will effect the gaskets and lubrication on rotating assembly, etc.. Is there anything I should be concerned about?
PS: I know its not really a PT question, but Im sure someone will chime in that would be of help. Thnx

That series Diesel doesn't care what you put in it. As long as you got the viscosities right you should be fine. Im sure your turbo will love the synthetic.

My family has used shell forever in our over the road trucks. 30k we change filters and 60k we change the oil. I wouldn't try that kind of mileage between changes in your car, but I know that these big diesels love it.

Rotella oil is a great lubricant and wont cause any trouble in your car. No worries.

I run Delo 400 in my dual sport motorcycle and ran it in the turbo MR2 I used to have. There are more detergent additives as diesels will have considerably more soot and carbon but diesel oils are great. I wouldn't worry a bit.
