So I got an aeromotive 13204 fuel regulator for my 383 small block making approx 500 hp. The speed shop I got it from said I could use my existing 1/2 inch line for the supply side of the regulator and suggested that I go with a 3/8 return line.. I have a Ricks tank with built in fuel pump But when I called Ricks they said I should run the SAME -6an(3/8)line for both feed and return. When I called Aeromotive they said I should be running the 3/8's line to the supply and my existing 1/2 inch line to the RETURN?? So I have three different people telling me three different things... which is right?
The only reason I am questioning it is that the Aeromotive instructions say to run no smaller than a -8an(1/2 inch) hose for the return. I want to use my existing 1/2 inch line that is in the car since it is already in it and I already bought the 3/8's line and snaked it through as well. The hose is teflon coated braided steel and is run the entire lenght of the car. The only bend is a rounded 90 at the beginning of the tank. So what is the best way to do it? Thanks in advance!!

Run at least the same size return as feed line. It keeps the return from backing up. If the return is too small and causes back pressure then the bypass regulator will be defeated and won't hold correct pressure.
Is your car injected or carbureted?

Car is Carburated... Way I plan on running it is line to regulator, then return line coming back to tank and two lines deadheading to the carb... This sucks since I already ran the return line Saturday.. Now I have to pull it all out change the fittings, re run the bigger line for the return etc... Thanks for the heads up. Would much rather do it now than later on after a problem arose... Guess I'll be running 1/2 inch line TO AND FROW for the system....

I always run 1/2 up and back but if you already have it plummed I would leave it You will be fine.

I am using a Walbro 255 in line with an FST filter supplied AN6 to a Mallory bypass FPR and returning with AN 8 to a bung I added to the tank. This is a sub 450 hp Carbed LS swap. I did so because Mallory called for a bigger return. I can't imagine 1/2 both ways being an issue honestly, seems like plenty. I agree that it is frustrating, everyone seems to differ in opinion on this one.

Could always put a pressure gauge in the return and see how much is there.

I went through this:

No problems with smaller return line. I already had the 3/8" line plumbed though.
