I have a 72 dart and running four wheel disc, I have the wilwood 12.19 dynalight pro series brakes front and rear. My question is that I plan to hopefully do some road course racing. Will this set up be good for my car? Or do I need next step up for brakes in front? Car will be mainly driver, full interrior around 3300lbs, triangulated four link rear, 6 speed, could over front rack and pinion and around small block around 350-400 hp, running 18s front and 19 or 20s rear. Road course won't be very often just open track days I would go race, with occasional auto cross.

Given your weight and HP, I would think that you will find the limits of the front brakes very quickly, especially in a track environment running street pad compounds. You could get more from them with a dedicated track pad, however the rotor is still going to be the limiting factor more than anything else.

I didn't realize Wilwood currently offered a 12.19" x .81" rotor diameter kit for that application, I thought they only had an 11" x .81" kit, 140-11022 (http://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/BrakeKitsProdFront.aspx?itemno=140-11022), and a drag kit. Do you have a part number for the kit(s) you're running? Either way, larger diameter and thicker rotors would be more appropriate given your build, something in the 13" x 1.25" size range, although it sounds like your wheels would allow larger if you were so inclined.

Yeah agreed with Tobin. Don't see that kit listed. Do you know the thickness of the rotors? If its only 0.81" they will probably run into overheating quickly. Not to mention that is a small caliper on a heavy car. Track pads will probably be your only chance.

Sorry the front end is custom RMS kit so it's running mustang 2 spindles. So should I say 4 piston calipers and 13" rotors? Or worth extra to get 6 piston calipers? I got screwed over by a shop I bought my parts through , guy is in bankruptcy now and didn't give me very good info for what I was doing, stuff is still in boxes haven't put on yet, but no way to return or up grade so just a huge cost for those front brakes.

It still looks like all the Pro Series kits are 11". Can you provide the part number?

Should be part #140-7017, they may not be pro series? I can double check the box tonight. Im In the process of building the car right now and i am new to some of this. I just want to make sure I have the right parts for what I want to achieve with my car.

Another question are the rear brakes big enough ? If I end up running 13/14" front will the 12.19 be fine for rear? Thanks for everyone's help

Yes that's correct part # 140-7017-B

Gdub,

In my opinion those 12x0.81" are not big enough for anything more than daily driving. That was the stock size for the old 3200lb 200hp early C4 Vettes. Even they had problems. I would look at something like a 13"x1.25" Wilwood FSL based kit or larger.

The rears will be fine in that size.

Ok, I should be around that weight not sure final cause front end is lighter but added frame rails, deleted springs added 4-link etc. Us Mopar guys are not used to any performance vehicles since the 70s and then they didn't handle or stop very well at all :) looks like I'm on the search for the bigger set up. Thanks for the help.
