I'm making my own lines from 6an braided hose, does the high side need to be anything other than the rubber lined hose? The guy I got the hose and fittings from said that hose will be fine on the high side of the pump. Thanks guys. Trond.
P.S. I've got the stock pump and gear box on the car, if that helps.

You should use teflon lined hose made for that application for the high pressure side. My line pressure is about 1200 psi.

For the high side you either need to use braided teflon hose or the fabric braided Aeroquip AQP line specifically for power steering.
Normal braided hose is only rated for about 350 psi working pressure... and power steering pressures are normally in the 800-1250 psi range.
You can use "standard" braided hose for the return line, but not for the pressure line.

I used the Eaton hydraulics areoquip teflon braided line that is commonly used for fuel lines. FCA 0820 for my pump and resv lines. The Eaton tech rep stated that it is rated for 2000 psi burst pressure.

Braided teflon hose is also more noisy than the typical rubber hi pressure hose used in power steering application..... and Troy threw down the facts already.

AN hose won't fit on the return hose barb very well, it's slightly smaller ID. There IS a braided regular hose that is made for fuel line that uses regular hose clamps, no AN fittings. You may be able to shove the AN hose over the nipple on the pump, but check it out first.

Thanks guys for all the info. I'm getting the teflon lined hose today. Chicane, do you mean more of a whine in the steering when you turn, when you said it was louder with teflon? Again thanks guys. Trond
