This ought to do it. Same color code as yours except top is painted black on bags.

A lot of that depends on the look you want. Consider the size of the vehicle, it was mostly intended to have a tire roughly 27-28" tall, and the wheel openings are typically sized proportionately. A very common P-T tire is a 275-40-17, which is about 25.7" tall. My opinion says unless it's slammed on the ground you need to fill the wheel opening, and a 275-40-17 would look too short. Going to a 28" x 17" tire may not achieve the low profile P-T look and may be better suited for a car at stock height rather than lowered a bit.

Consider this- a 275-35-20 is 27.7-27.8" tall, depending on manufacturer. A 275-40-19 is the same height, as is a 275-45-18, as is a 275-50-17, as is a 275-60-15 and a 215-75-15 stock type tire. All of these tires (except the 215) are the same width sidewall to sidewall, and are the same height. The smaller the wheel dia, the taller the tire sidewall.

When asking "what wheel size?", add to your question what side wall height and look are you after? Hope this sparks some thought...

Personally I say up to 20" wheels look great on Impalas, -as long as it's lowered rather than lifted, just my preference. :)

Search here or on lateral-g for a build called the pendejo. Not sure which site it was on.

i dont know if you can tell but i have 225/70r15s front and 275/60r15's in rear all on factory 15x7 rallys so it sits waist high in the rear i like the a taller side wall on P/T wheels thats why i was thinking 17 or 18 inch wheels

Pendejo is a different year range Impala than yours but still inspirational none the less.

This is another Impala that is running a 18/20 combo. These big cars have miles of wheel well to fill. The only true thing to worry about is brake clearance needed, bolt pattern and slight offset.

if you want a bigger side wall and bigger wheels you can easily use 20's. 22's look right on the cars (1971)

I had 20" (billets) on a 71' impala and they looked small.

Here's one on 22's.

and 20's

To really dial the look in you really have to slam it as mentioned previously. Or just go with a taller sidewall tire to fill in those enormous wheel wells

Cool story. Being what it is how about putting a bigger version of the factory rallys on it.
