I'd love to go out n by the biggest n baddest brake system in the world, but due to my very limited budget I've got to make choices. For a car that sees 99%+ street use is there that big of a difference in ls1 and c5 brakes? I've got myself limited to 17" rims because I got tires dirt cheap. I know that 17" rims won't clear c5 so thinking c4/c5 hybrid setup to clear the 17's. Anyone got opinions thoughts real world data??????? As always thanks for input

All are good choices. I had an ls1 Camaro and consistently had problems with the rotors warping. That was a known problem with the stock rotors. That would point me to the other options.

Thanks for the info. Hate the be replacing rotors after a little playing. Maybe I need to look closer at the c4/c5 option.

I've run fr rr ls brakes for 5 yrs. done a few auto crosses with no problems each year and drag racing and lots of regular spirited driving too.

I have the C5 front and LS rear for the easy parking brake setup. I used to have C5 rear and can't tell the difference in the two. I have no issue running 17s with them.

Mine are older Boyd wheels I picked up used. I also had the brakes behind some 17" Salt Flats with 1/4" spacers to clear the caliper. I believe the biggest issue is the pad height of the wheels so you clear the caliper. I think you can download a template from the Kore 3 website that can be used to check the measurements.

Thanks guys. The problem I have with using Tobin templates is the only wheel shop in my area is closed on my only day off for the week. Maybe ill get lucky n have an extra day off but not going to hold my breath.

I would bet if you asked them, they'd probably open up for you in the after hours to potentially sell a set of wheels.... I know I would in this economy right now (and I don't even own a wheel shop lol)

just a thought

Lol ya I'm a truck driver I work 14+ hours a day 6 days a week. If I needed a farm tractor tire there is prob bout 20 with in 15 miles but look for a car rim on sat I'd aft to drive 45 min to an hour and after driving all week last thing I want to see is a steering wheel.

Im on a budget also for my 72 Nova and Im going to use the LS1 caliper with C5 brackets and rotors to save money. I got a great deal on the LS1 front and rear setup and also found C5 brackets with pads cheap. I guess its a LS/C5 hybrid? only have $150 for front and rears so far

Here is some info I have put together that may help make your decision. The data assumes each kit has the same brake pad compound and same caliper flex.

I have 17" rims as well and don't have a problem with clearance with the front C5 brakes. Print out the templates from tobin, and paste them to some cardboard. Then take them with you to the wheel shop. You will be able to tell if the brakes will fit with that.

Well with a little more internet searching I have found out that you can use c5 calipers with ls1 rotors and use torq thrust 2 rims. Stockton wheel said that there rims "should" clear but I would need to buy a rim to test.

Maybe print this template out and take it up to the wheel shop and check before you buy....

so what does that buy you, a slightly stiffer caliper housing with slightly smaller pistons?

I'm running 17" wheels with Std C6 brakes too. The template on Tobin's website is a great tool. MAKE SURE the template is scaled correctly when it is printed and you should be good to go!
