Well I finally drove my firebird after 2 years in the garage. Definetly had a basket of problems. Got about 75% of them taken care of. The car is a blast! I still have some brake issues to work out. Not sure if the pedal is right or not, so I am going to let it break in for awhile. People look at me crazy when I come down the street in this thing!!(even had the cops called, gotta love old people!) I haven't 100% got on it yet, but my initial impression is, that it is fast as hell! it really wants to breath up top, which is what i wanted, i didnt' want a huge torque monster that breaks the tires loose at 60mph! Mrquick had a ride in it, so he can vouch(although he didn't seem all that impressed...must be all that time behind his 250horse crate motor :lmao: )
THe last year, a lot of people wanted to see pics of my 19" wheels on a second gen, the front is still pretty high up since there is no sheetmetal on the car so this is as good as it gets for now. Also we decided I am going to repaint the entire car. The front sheetmetal was already taken to metal, so i might as well spray the entire car!

19s, so does this put you in the poser category with Bill and I? Or does it take 20s to do that?

yody
07-26-2005, 07:41 PM
funny you mention that, I bought these wheels over a year ago. back then everyone was talking ***** because i had 19's! THey thought they were way too big. No it seems as if 19's are exceptable and more common. I think 20's are more for people into looks and driving there car on the street. Your only a poser if you actually only "pose" its up to you to prove that your not. If someone passes judgement on you without you having a chance yet to prove that your car is more than that then thats on them.

yody

I can't really tell, its been 2 years since i drove the car. You can see that i have a decent sidewalls especially on the rear, i really didn't feel any harshness. but i have just been crusing around the block basically.

Looks great Cody, keep it up! Remember that the car will probably handle worse once you get the tonnage of front end weight back on it, so enjoy it a bit while you can. Disconnect the speedo when Vince is in there so you don't freak him out! I am glad to hear that you decided to repaint the entire car, as it will look much nicer this way! You need to come over when I get my front wheels mounted. I just finished one of the UCA's (GW custom-fit bushings), now on to the other one...

yody
07-26-2005, 08:44 PM
cool! thats nice that you found a way to get the delalums in there!! I was looking at the back shot and was thinking how good some 19x13's would look!! The car actually doesnt' handle that good right now, it is way higher in the front and there is no alignment on the car. It will be better when the front is lower and i get an alighment, it feels really weird like it is

yody
07-26-2005, 08:48 PM
for no reason other than i am a picture #hore here is a shot of the trunk, better not get a flat!! theres a nice 12 disc changer on the other side for those long trips

Yeah it does sit way too high, but I figured you would get it handled by the time the sheet metal was on. Too bad you couldn't align it yourself for now and enjoy the weight difference! I set my ride height today figuring a 1" rake and then leveled the frame side to side so that I can check my alignment specs and ranges as soon as the spindles are on.

yody
07-26-2005, 10:33 PM
we'll see where it sits with the sheetmetal on, if its still too high, i will chop the springs. Let me know when i can come up too see the wheels! also I don't know squat about alignments, i just take it to the shop, only time my cars ever see a shop!

not at the moment, probably down the road, i will swap them out. I do have the super heavy 73 nose on it. I have some plans for over the winter including, a 6 point cage/harnesses, possilby the new nose, and finish the interior in leather to match the seats.

I'll agree with that David, those 19's do look good on there.

I've always liked the second gens the best out of the F-bodies, especially the early snub-nosed ones. Just wish it could have been big Poncho power though, but with Chevy engine choices as cheap as they are, I can understand the switch.

19s are poser wheels. Any track times yet? Looks like good weight reduction as-is.

just kidding!

19s aren't poser wheels, my C6 came with 19s from the factory, and so do the new Z06 Vettes. Hell, I might put 19s on my next 69!

For those that asked, I didn't notice any ride difference between my 17s and 19s on my previous red '02 SS convertible. They rode pretty well actually.

No, my fuel pump has 2 inlets, so they both go to the pump. Also I am going to get rid of the blue and red fittings, and get some endura(silver) fittings and use the blue part of the fitting i have now, and replace the red part with the endura. so it will be blue and silver :rolleyes5

Also the front rims are only 8.5's and are suprisingly really light, lighter than my 17's maybe, the front rim is only like 21ilbs(without tire)

also the 454 wansn't planned on going in the firebird, it just kind of happened, just like the entire build, it wansn't planned at all.

Citation for making bystanders drool all over themselves from just the sound perhaps? :naughty:

As long as you use hand signals you can drive that on the street. Nothing poses an immediate danger to other drivers. That I can see anyway. During the day without headlights/etc should be fine.

Of course, then there's the "weight of your right foot" type tickets to worry about...

Kris,

What did your car put down on the dyno?

*******s never did a full pull on it because the motor was still too new. They were curious though and tested it at half-throttle up to 5K RPM (redline is around 7200) and it was already putting down 400hp and about 480tq. The guy said he barely got into boost, so I think there's still a good amount of power left. He estimated that we should be just shy of 600rwhp at 5psi. He is a Vortech guy and didn't grasp the concept of us wanting to crank it up to 12-14psi. :squint:

Ralph LoGrasso
08-10-2005, 12:19 PM
Ahh, I see. Too bad you didn't get a full pull in, but sounds like she's got plenty of power! 600rwhp at 5psi, huh? Damn, that should be like 750+rwhp at 12-14psi. Nice work!

madmax
08-10-2005, 01:53 PM
Dang? What are the specs on that engine Kris?

I looked around but couldn't find anything.

--Max

KrisHorton
08-10-2005, 03:39 PM
Don't have all the specs handy, but basically:

427 Big Block (454 studded and o-ringed block, bored .060 over and 396 crank)
Forged dished pistons and Crower rods.
Engle custom ground cam (can't recall the specs right now)
AFR 325cc heads and a match-ported Edelbrock intake.
Milodon oil system.

Engine is at 8.5:1 CR. Feeding it with a 460gph Product Engineering fuel pump and a Performance Carburetors blow-through carb.

Sorry, that list is crap, I have the specs at home, I'll see if I can do it justice. Been a long day.
