SO now that the truck is road worthy, I am starting to look at the IROC again.
As my luck would have it these days, I noticed some hairline cracks on my 400 sbc from the steam holes to the bolt holes. This seems to be common and some say not to worry, but I ahve decided to part ways with the 400 and build a 355 combo.
I would like to copy this build,
http://www.highperformancepontiac.com/tech/hppp_0910_dyno_testing_the_tpi_chevy_small_block_e ngine/viewall.html
AS it is just what I am looking for. I will use the bigger cam or a comp speced one and a stealth ram.
I am suprised by how high the compression is in this build, and they seem to credit the vortec head as giving it the ability to run on pump gas.
When looking at it, the have the vortecs proted and upgraded to 2.02/ 1.60 valves. It seems after spending that much on vortecs, I could get a set of Jegs Aluminum heads, or other brand.
I would think the Aluminum head would offer some heat disapation and allow high compression as well, and the larger ports would build a little more power as well.
So, I guess what I am asking is for the veteran builders to look over that build, and let me know if you think I can run that combo with a 180cc or 195cc aluminum head and get as good or better results,m on premium pump gas.
