Well it only took 5 years but we finally finished up the car. I wanted to post a few pictures on Pro-Touring and tell everyone thank you again for your help. Having a resource like this allowed me to gather idea's and figure out what I wanted to do. I am sure that as time goes by I will continue to make improvements to the car but right now I am just looking forward to putting some miles on it!

I bought the car sight unseen of Ebay while I was in Iraq in 2006. The car was in alright condition but had some rust, I figured we were just going to repaint it and bring it back to life. Well the "as long as we are doing that" bug hit me and the rest is history.

Frame ended up coming completely off of the car and every inch of sheet metal from the package tray back is now brand new.

Played around with paint idea's but I just liked the Pro-Touring idea to much.

Zwygarts Hot Rods completed the restoration and Kevin is truly an artist when it comes to metal. I took a lot of inspiration from everyone else here and if you think I am in Love with Bad Penny you are right. The car has made a few good guys show's around the mid-west and only has a few miles on and off trailers. That is going to change very soon.....

WOW! Very nice. I like the stripes. I might steal that first idea... no pinstripes with the D90!

This is a very nice build! Every thing is tasteful, not over the top. What do you think your into the car for now? Also, I just order the x-rated rims,. What's size are you tires and rims. Also, what's the back spacing? Tell whats the purpose of the car. Show, go ?

Thanks,
First of all I built the car to drive it, not to show it. But I figured after putting all the work into it that we had it needed to be shown a few times before it started getting the dreaded rock chips. It's a full Hotchkis suspension underneath with new upper and lower control arms as well as adjusted geometry on the front end. I haven't really had a chance to put it through its paces yet, but my biggest regret is going to be the rear end. We went with leaf springs but I have a feeling those will be coming out at some point in the future.....
I spent a lot of time PMing people on this site and asking them what size they were running to get a good estimate of what I wanted. Its a 9.5 inch rim. 245's/ 35's in the front and 285's/ 35's in the back. I cannot remember the backspace I will have to look it up. I well tell you that when I called Forgeline they have done so many Camaro's he just asked me how the car was setup and he new exactly what I needed. (I had to tell him the sidewall I wanted though). The shocks have been moved and the lip on the interior of the wheel well was shaved to squeeze another inch out of it, but 285 is as much as you can get back there before you have to tub it out. It still looks like a ton of meat back there though.
We started on the sheet metal on the back end before I had even heard of pro-touring and didn't have a clue they sold ready made mini tubs for 1968 Camaro's..... to my regret. On the other hand 335 tires are $1,000+ a piece so I guess that saved me a bunch of money too....
As for the price, that's kind of a touchy subject around here. I have never seen anyone answer that question and I think there is a good reason for that. Lets just say this, a full, custom, frame off restoration is going to take 2,500 to 5,000 man hours (depending on what you do) to complete. If you figure $50 an hour for labor, then you start figuring parts into that you start to get an idea of what these cars cost.

Do you know any good drive's around the area? Something that is not to crowded with a few twists and turns?

We kind of came up with this after looking around at the aftermarket gauge clusters and deciding I didn't like any of them. It looks great in the car. To be honest with you it looks so much like its supposed to be there that unless you get a person who really likes gen 1 Camaro's they have no idea how much effort went into it. LOL

David, you really did a great job with the car and added some great custom mods. You should be very proud of what you did!

I am always looking for something different out there. You did a great job. What color is that? I painted my 73 Camaro Atomic Orange with charcoal stripes.

Its 2002 Plymouth Prowler Orange with metallic flake. The color looks completely different depending upon the type of light and how the sun is hitting it. It will go from a brilliant copper color to almost a deep red as it passes from shadow to sun.

There are a few drives around... It has been a while. I know 36 between Seally and Brenham is decent. Not enough curves though. I will ask around as I know there are a few cruises that happen going West.
