ey,

Probably newbie question but I do come from the Dodge Background.

A 1969 "Boss" mustang is the car I like the look of. Is a Boss the car that looks the way like a Boss does, or, is a normal 1969 Fastback mustang look the same just not as valuable as a "Boss" version which is more to do with the options not the cosmetics?

How light have you guys gotten your 69 Mustang down to and what does it handle/feel like and what is it capable of doing if you wanted to go all out? (like how much options are there for custom mod-mustangs)

I believe they are the same car, other than cosmetic options and of course the Boss engine package.

The same Sportsroof models. Nothing special other than mentioned above.
The Boss429 had some unique features. For example they have special shock towers to accomodate that huge Boss429 engine.

Right. So If I just wanted the car to look that way and then upgrade the shocks/engine myself, I would be cheapest off with a 69 Fastback for that look and then modify the whole car myself rather than spend $$$ for a "BOss" to then go and change the whole car from being a Boss?

Don't spend the money for a true Boss. They have crazy price lately. Get a 69 Sportsroof and make a BOSS clone. I am sure you would modify it anyway. If you cut up and change everything to make a modern handling car you will loose the value of the true Boss car.
I was in the same shoe with my Cougar. I love the 69 Mercury Cougar Eliminator 428CJ but they have also high prices so I bought a standard model. BTW, Cougars are way cheaper than fastback Mustangs and not many PT Cougar rolling on the streets. :) The 69-70 models have really nice coupe body lines.

If you bought a Genuine boss and started cutting it up - I'd kill you with my bare hands.

The standard 1969 Mustang Fastback is the same body as the Mach 1, Boss 302, Boss 429.
The Mach 1 package was mostly visual upgrades.
The Boss 302 had a warmed up 302, better tranny and had a 9" I think.
The Boss 429 was the Shotgun, 429 Cubic Inches of Fords Finest muscle - and still had oil problems.. go figure. Shock towers were thicker metal, and the front subframe had minor bracing to prevent torque twist from cracking them.

Cougars and Mustangs are pretty much the same car under the skin as far as I know - could be wrong, correct me medbali76 if I am...

If you REALLY want to save money, but still want a good body '69 Fastback, look for the manual 6 cylinder ones, they don't have a bunch of extra holes to fill, and all you have to do is chuck the 302 or 429 in with it's transmission, chuck in a 9"er, beef up the rear suspension, reinforce the front towers, weld two plates on the inside of the sub-frames, and BAM - Insta-Boss.

lol.

If you can't find a six cylinder car, find your self a low option V8 manual.
There's one here in Australia that's so close to immaculate going for only $9,500... If only I had the money right now. :-( (But it's a 347c.i, 4 speed, 9" ex race-car.. so it's been thrashed to within an inch of it's life, but there is no rust, and no body cracks, and the paint is 20 years old, so yeah... Gem among the rough my friend.)
