I have a 69 with the TCI subframe installed but still have front end off the car. TCI told me what they used on their 68 but said a 69 would be different. I'm looking for the widest tire/wheel combo and would like to go with 17"ers. Any help would be appreciated so I can get by with only buying one set of front wheels that fit the 1st time. Thanks.

Hey, below i listed a few things for you to take measurements of. With these measurements we will know what you can run on your car. After that you just pick the type of wheel you want and we'll make it happen.

-Measure Back Spacing.
Measure from the wheel mounting surface towards the inner wheel well for clearance.
Most of the time, your measurement will be from the wheel mounting surface to where it hits the shocks in the rear.
The front will usually hit the spindle arm.
It's usually best to make these measurements with the car on jack stands and with the wheel off so there is load on the vehicle.

-Measure front Spacing.
Measure from the wheel mounting surface towards the outer part of the fender.
Also measure from the wheel mounting surface to the inner part of the fender.
I know it's not on the form but we like to have that measurement as well.

-Measure Caliper Height.
This is the measurement from the wheel mounting surface to the highest point of the brake caliper.
This will determine your pad/disk height.

-Hub Pilot Measurement.

-Hub Length

David, thanks for the info. I was hoping someone had already determined these measurements and knew what was a good fit since the front end is off the car and I wanted to get it on all fours so I could get it off the lift and turn it around (I put in a work bench in front of the lift and don't have enough room to put the front end back on).

Have you seen the last muscle car? ...... Wooden wheels cheep and easy just to get you by for now don't think it will work out so good for the track

I have seen that before but I'm not comfortable supporting a big block and 6 speed on 3/4" plywood while I do a 3 point turn. Thanks

I was wondering if you had any luck with the wheels for the 69 camaro? I spoke with Evan @ TCI yesterday, he mentioned they did a 69 car but couldn't remember the front wheels. I'm going with 18's. I believe a 265/35-18 will fit the front with a 9" wheel. Not sure the backspace. Thanks for any help

No luck yet on what back spacing will fit. Probably will have to get some junk 17" wheels to put on so I can get the car off the lift so I put the front clip back on. I'm really surprised TCI doesn't know. They knew what oil pan I needed to clear the cross member, what headers to use, what rearend width was needed but not what wheel size fits.

18x9 with 5.75" backspace & 275/35/18 tires

If you run 5+ degrees of positive caster you may need to modify the rear portion of the wheel house. We just rolled the lip a little at the bottom which pulled the wheel house a 1/4" back.

Just to clarify... was this on your '68 or was it a '69?? Do you have any pics of the lip or clearance?? Thanks

It applies to either but we first learned about it on our '68 test car.

The lip mod is only the last 6" of the lower portion of the fender. Once it is pushed back it will also pull the wheel house with it.

Pics really help!! I'm assuming this was a 2" drop setup? If the car was up in the front alittle (like an inch or less) would it be better?? Or what's your thought on the 265/35-18?? Thanks

Yes, that customer has the dropped spindles. The 265 will limit your tire options, so just make sure the tire you seek is available.

I went and did a visit to the TCI warehouse and got a tour of the shop. checked out the 68 red Camaro there and they were running a 275 wide tire in the front and a 315 wide in the rear. I did notice a little tire run on the back of the sub-frame on the right side. they had some really nice cars in the mick up shop. I ordered the 69 Camaro front show package sub-frame for my 69 Camaro. i'll be ordering the 3link rear with a narrowed ford 9" here soon
