I am now beginning to collect parts for my '82 Cougar sedan. Within the next two weeks, I should receive the '90 Mustang 5.0 rack-and-pinion and the '95 Mustang FLCAs of which I won on eBay. I am contemplating bidding for a power brake booster from a '95 Mustang Cobra for the planned Baer braking system.
As soon as I get a good digital camera, I will download some pics of my beloved (?) machine.
I am building it to go 1) compete in Car Craft's Real Street Eliminator competition and 2) take it on the Hot Rod Power Tour.

Some of you are probably asking as to why I would want the OE SN-95 Mustang contol arms and not go to a front coil-over conversion. There are several reasons for this. First is the PITA factor; converting an "oddball Fox body" to front and/or rear coil overs would be a REAL job! Also, being that the Cougar has a longer wheelbase than a Mustang, installing a torque-arm would be very difficult.
But the main reason for OE-type FLCAs is the bolt-on factor. I am wanting the Cougar to be as much a bolt-on proposition as is humanly possible!

Car sounds fun, aren't the SN95 arms longer than the older fox arms (moves the wheel out)? Are you going with a manual trans? I saw an older Granada locally that someone had swapped a 5.0/T5 into, pretty cool little car. I'm not familiar with an '82 Cougar, we need pics. Variety is good.

Yes, the SN-95 FLCAs are about an inch and a half longer than the OE FLCAs, thus moving the tires/wheels further out. This is intentional to improve both the handling and ride quality of the car.
The '82 Cougar is Mercury's version of the Fox-body Ford Granada.
I will post pics just as soon as I can secure a good digital camera with software that is Macintosh compatible!

I just won a power brake booster from a '95 Mustang Cobra this past Friday night. I sent payment for it Saturday morning. Accmulating parts for my PT Cougar sedan...................

I got this part because I am planning on going with Baer brakes front and rear. With Baer brakes, one needs a powerful booster to operate the power brakes. Therefore, I bought the '95 Cobra booster.

I am also bidding on an anti-roll bar from an '89 Mustang GT. I will know within the next few days as to whether or not I will win this item. Of course, I will keep you guys posted on these events.

I just received my SN-95 Mustang front lower control arms today! I am stoked! While I have yet to finish disassembly work on the Cougar primarily because of issues surrounding my Dad, I am looking forward to not only finishing disassembly but starting the work to upgrading the Cougar to PT status!

Now, I am awaiting the '90 Mustang 5.0 rack-and-pinion and the '95 Mustang Cobra power brake booster..............................

i have built several mustangs and may have some cheap advice for you. I would look for a 89 or lincoln LSC and steal the 4 wheel disk brakes from it. That is about a 4500 pound car that needed big brakes. the brakes on it are nearly as large as the cobra and they are 5 lug with 73mm front calipers. I then got a factory manual brake spacer and went with a 7/8" bore MC. i added a wilwood porportioning valve for the rear bias. the brakes work great.

The only problem with that scenario is that I am planning on installing SN-95 spindles as well as FLCAs. I don't think that regular Fox spindles fit the SN-95 control arms, and I wouldn't want to attempt such a conversion anyway.
The Cougar really isn't that heavy. In fact, it is a fairly lightweight car, considering its size and the fact that it has more sound deadener from the factory than the Zephyr (cousin Fox body).

I just won a front anti-roll bar off of an '89 Mustang 5.0 from eBay! I will be paying for it in the next few days.
Slowly but surely, I am accumulating parts for my Cougar that will make it quite a canyon carver......................

Now, I have won a new (NOS) part. It is a fuel tank sender unit for EFI, made for fuel-injected '83-86 Mustang GTs. This part will become crucial in converting the Cougar to Mustang-style EFI.

Now, all I will have to do is figure how to adapt this sending unit to the OE Cougar fuel tank. But that is a little down the road.

I will be receiving a Fairmont/Granada-spec center console here within the next few days. This way, I won't have to butcher a good '86 Mustang GT console to fit it into the Cougar. More specifically, I won't have to find a way to cover the e-brake slot in the Mustang console. Plus, the car from which this car comes is an OE automatic, whereas the '86 Mustang console comes from a stick-shift model.
