View Full Version : DSE M/C & Booster part #'s

Does anyone out there have a DSE m/c & booster combo.
I need the actual part numbers cast into the pieces.
One from the master cylinder and one from the booster.
aps63

The reason behind this is that DSE tells me that this mc & booster combo is an old design and no longer available.
I would like to use the same m/c reservoir & booster.
I don't like the snap on top of the new DSE design.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/07/050101main-1.jpg
I want to use the screw on cap type of reservoir as used on their test Camaro's.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I've been looking in to this also... The best I could find was that the master is from a 2000 S-10, and the booster is a 9" Dual Diaphragm (1998 Corvette)??? Nothing is confirmed yet, but they do look similar.

old style master is
18060785 - CYLINDER
GM PART # 18060785
CATEGORY: Brake Master Cylinder
PACK QTY: 1
ACDELCO OE SERVICE pn 174-788
I believe the booster is an F body style with firewall adapter brackets.

Mr Quick - the part # you have is the one with the brake sensor. I'm looking for the one without it.
DSE used an AC delco unit. Waiting for them to get me the part #'s.
Thanks again.

DSE just got back to me and they were unable to get me any part #'s.
Oh well, anybody else have this unit sitting on their shelf waiting for install.
Just need the #'s off them.

Waiting on confimation on that.

I have had several people tell me it is a Tuff Stuff 9" dual diaphram Universal booster #2229NC (black) or #2229NB (gold zinc).
So that is the one I bought. I have not installed the whole system yet. But hopefully very soon. Then I can comment on the performance of this combination.
I even bought a clevis like the one DSE uses. I also got the booster mounts from DSE and the whole thing cost me about $220. And it's just the way I wanted it.

I got the booster from Summit Racing.
I bought the clevis on ebay (just type in clevis and you will come up with several places to get them. Plus there are a lot of companies out there that sell clevis.)
Some even have them in stainless steel.
The brackets I bought from DSE.
I followed Marty's(2nd chance Camaro) advice and are using the 67 -69 low angle brackets.
I believe you can get the same ones from Tuff Stuff.
DSE has them for $21 so that's a pretty good deal..

Do you have the specs on the clevis or can you send me the auction number? There are too many options out there. That will adjust for brake pedal mounting?

Got a nice stainless steel bracket from Tobin over at Kore-3 to keep the prop valve nice and compact.

Tuff Stuff offers two different 9" dual diaphragm boosters. P/N's 2224 and 2229 as stated above. According to the tuff stuff website the 2229 descriptions say "w/Y7 kit". Can someone please explain that for me? THanks!!

I got side tracked and redid my garage. I couldn't take the mess and lack of storage, light, and everything else.
But, I'm back on the Camaro now and just got everything hooked up. Just have to bleed them, then I can do the exhaust and I will be on the road.
I will post up the results soon hopefully.

Paul, I am using the exact same parts - I used this thread as reference and I'm just starting to get things plumbed. What size thread are the ports on that master cylinder? I have the same one but I don't know the sizes.
Also, which is for the rear brakes and which is the front? I did remove the shipping plugs and they seem to be two different sizes. I love that prop valve bracket too. I should have gotten one with my multiple orders from Tobin/Kore3.

We have the master cylinder that DSE previously supplied and also the clevis assembly:

http://www.hydratechbraking.com/accessory.html#TXTOBJ7DB1212E15220B0
While not shown in the online images, the master cylinder is supplied with the hard to find OE style direct fit brake line tube nuts in both 3/16" and 1/4" sizes so that you don't have to chase pesky brake line adapters around (total of four brake line tube nuts included along with bench bleeding instructions and port plugs). The clevis is also supplied as an assembly with the correct cross pin and cotter pin.

Hi Guys - as some of you may know, we are the world's only hydraulic brake assist system specialists - that is ALL that we do. As such, we only deal with power steering driven hydraulic brake assist systems, referred to as hydroboost by trade name. It seems like there are countless groups out there that work with vacuum boosters, though we do not. Our opinion is that "vacuum boosters suck" (pun intended). That being said, we can do the following for you:

Finally, I put the Camaro on the road for it's first shake down. The brakes worked flawlessly. I'm really happy with the combination I put together. I just have to play around with the prop valve now.
The combo of the M/C, booster and other parts with the Kore-3 Brakes is terrific. As you can tell I'm VERY happy.

Okay looking to do this on our Cutlass. However I've experienced A-body's have a longer 3/8-24 rod than F-Body's. Does anyone know if TuffStuff has a booster with a longer rod or do I need to run an extender to get to the pedal? Just trying to get all the parts and not have to reorder more stuff. Thanks!

I had to use an extender nut & an extra piece of threaded rod(got them both from Home Depot) to attach the Booster rod to the clevis.
You can see it in this photo. This booster was made for a Corvette so I did expect to have to make some kind of modification.

I believe they are all the same. The port threads are differant. Standard, Metric, Port size.

So for the front brakes, did you just run the line from the MC to a T-splitter (aps63)? I'm assuming the prop valve you have only has 1 inlet and 1 out going to the rear brakes? Any pics of this? I believe the Wilwood prop valve gray86hach is using has 2 outlets for the front brakes.
thanks

Even with the 2 outlets you only have to use one. The option is to run a port to each caliper or a single line to a T blocking the unused port.

I have the same Booster a Tuffstuff 2229NC, and the MC 18M974, my problem is the bolts on the booster seem a little too wide for the mc to attach correctly. Any one else have this problem? Think if I just squeeze the bolts together a bit on the booster it would work? Maybe they got spread apart some how? Any help would be great.
Also I bought the same Wilwood prop valve grey86hach has, along with the bracket. This is for a 71 Nova.

Seems like they just got bent out a bit. Measure the bolts at their base and measure the holes on the m/c. If they match up, just squeeze them together and slide it on.

I see a brake line going from your prop valve down to the driver side brake. The other two lines bend around the front and go where? Which other line goes into the prop valve? Why does the willwood prop valve have more fittings? I have the one you have, But my old prop valve has like 5 fitting on it. Can you clear this up anyone?

The line coming out of the prop valve on the right is going to the rear brakes.
The line coming out the front port of the M/C is going into the other side of the prop valve.
The prop valve only controls the rear brakes.
The line that comes out of the rear port of the M/C is for the front brakes, it goes into a "T" then goes to the right and left side front brakes.
Hope this helps.
