I have a carberated big block. My rpm are not coming back down as fast as Normal after releasing throttle. Especially after a good flogging. Any sugestions as to how to fix it? It seems to work well again after a few days, and continues to untilI beat on it.

Gas engines are throttled by air. Sounds like a sticky linkage or throttle cable. I would have someone watch the butterfly's when it's doing it and see if they return slowly.

i'd guess sticky butterlies and/or an aging return spring.

I had a similar problem with RPM not returning to idle. Turned out my mechanical advance springs were too light and were not pulling the advance weights back in at just above idle resulting in the ignition timing advancing. Installed one slightly heavier spring and the idle problem was solved.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Will advise results. Need a fix soon. As I have a 3.5 mile road course I will tackle 4 times on July 23rd.

Sounds like a sticky throttle shaft or throttle plate ..
Clean it good with some carb cleaner .

I wish my problem was that easy. I have a similar problem, but it's random and only does it at certain stoplights. I'm going to try spraying the primaries and secondaries with throttle body cleaner to see if that makes a difference. But I remember looking over the carb before I bolted it on and it looked damn near spotless...
