In this build I will show the good and bad features of building a Dynacorn body.

My customer has wanted a Fastback Mustang for a long time but could not find a good body that did not require a lot of rust repair so he decided to buy a 1967 Dynacorn body. He started calling around and could not find a body back in January. He called Dynacorn and they told him they had no idea when they would get one in. He was getting discouraged and had to go back to work where he works 10 weeks and than is off 10 weeks. When he got back in town he started checking around and still nobody had one. He found a project that was never started that came with a lot of extra parts so he bought it.

Some of the good points are the shock tower braces, extra welding in the engine compartment and a lot more spot welds and the export brace

Another good feature is the one piece seat riser.

I have never seen an after market valance fit this good but it is bolted together instead of screws.

The one piece seat riser is a convertible piece. Using that in a coupe or fastback is a great way to stiffen the car up.

We have not had the time to work on this yet but have an issue with the door gaps. This is what we found so far:

The hood bumper brackets are not straight

Dynacorn does not spot weld the quarters they are plug welded and than they ground the welds to much.

The door and trunk bolts are metric

We thought at first they had metric threads but they are the same as all Mustangs so I changed them. Notice there is no ecoat under the fender brace. We will be sanding the complete body and spraying 2 coats of SPI epoxy.

Installing the TCP subframe connectors. The minimum clearance between the factory frame rail where the subframe connectors attach in the front is 27 1/8" the Dynacorn body was 27 1/2" so were were okay.

Once we had them welded in place we went to test fit the center brace and it would not fit in the back. Dynacorn welded the frame rails in the wrong place. The distance between the frame rails is 1/2" narrower than stock spec in the front and 1/4" in the rear behind the shackle mounts. We will have to modify the TCP center brace.

I have always heard it is best to install the subframe connectors with the engine and tran installed and weight of car on the suspension. Have you installed them on while the car is on the rotissiere without any problems? I plan to install the same tcp connectors and i have no engine or trans in the car and will be putting it on the rotissiere soon. It would make welding them in easier for sure. Also do you mount the rotissiere to the front bumper bracket holes in the fram and also the rear leaf spring hole in the frame?

The snubber brackets are not mounted in the same place on the frame rail so Brian removed them so we could install the cradle for the TCP rear suspension.

The cradle is supposed to bolt to the pinnon snubber mount but there was no holes and it was off center a little.

The deck lid fit great but the doors, fenders and hood are another story.

Once the fender apron holes were modified to get the fender back so there was not a large gap at the windshield and front of the hood there was not enough gap at the door.

When you instsalled the total control subframe connectors how close did they come to the floor pan? i just got a set andnwhen the front is forced all the way up to the floor then try and push the back all the way up they hit the foor pans before they are all the way up in position? I replaced my floor pans witrh aftermarket panels but figured everything was in position since the were clamped to rear torg box and front frame rail. I guess while it was clamped in placi could have possible forced the middle up som without screwing up the fit in front and rear.

They hit. We marked the area where the hit and used a hammer on the floor pan

The left vent window would not fit so Brian had to drill out the spot welds and bend the sheetmetal a little to allow the vent window to go in.

wow...great job! only thing is that despite the costs there is still a lot of modification needed to get it right....But I think the end result will be very nice (and rust free!!)

We went to install the brake pedal and steering column bracket and it would not fit. The dash was installed wrong and had to be moved toward the firewall the bracket was 1" to short from lining up. We compared the distance from the dash to the firewall on my 68 Coupe to determine the dash was in wrong.

Nice gaps. Even with the new Dynacorn shell it's not bad. I have had my fair share of Stangs and they never fit well. 65 grills on a 64 1/2 and such. And the dreaded cowl to fender gap. If my memory serves me that was never a good fitting line-up location. When the inner fender bolt never lined up at the A pillar and you would have to elongate the hole for proper alignment. Great job, your team gets it done and executes well.

The amazing thing was after all the work on the door gaps the edge of the hood lined up with both headlight buckets from CJ Pony Parts. The Dynacorn headlight buckets have been on back order for over a month and I was told probably another two months before they would be available so we got them from CJ's. They are a little ripply and will require some blocking but they fit.

This is what Brian has been fabricating. It is an under the dash hood release. The hood required a lot of fabrication along with this latch that came off of another Ford. To find out all the details you will have to read the build story in an upcoming issue of Modified Mustangs & Fords magazine.

Looks like the hood latch off of a 78 - 79 Ford F150. I would think that it would take a bit of work to move the latch assembly from the hood to the rad support. Hope it will be more or less a bolt in as I don't want to ruin new paint.

Not even close to a bolt in on a 67 - 68. requires a LOT of fabrication on the hood.

We have not finished the underside. We had to take it off the rotisserie to line up all the sheetmetal. We will be putting it on a body cart to finish the bodywork than back on the rotisserie to finish the underside. I believe this is what we are doing unless the owner wants something different. Sand than using SPI products epoxy prime black and than bedliner next red oxide epoxy primer to give it a factory look. I like the TCP rear coilover but if you are looking for a bolt in than use Rod & Custom. With the TCP you have to weld the rear crossmember (which I did when we installed the Rod & Custom in my coupe) and brackets on the rear end housing unless you are using a Fab 9 like we did that came with brackets.

Is that roll bar from Mustangs to fear ? if so it looks like you welded it in as opposed to being able to unbolt it and remove it is that what you did?

We bought a Mustang to Fear roll bar but it did not fit right. The top center bend was not in the middle, the bar was twisted and the bends were not the same on both sides. We took a lot of measurements and the owner bought some new material and went to ART (Applied Racing Technology) in Clearwater Fl. with the original roll bar. They wanted to make it flat across the top but the owner wanted it like the Mustang to Fear bar but bent in the center. They put the dimensions in the computer and bent a new bar and it is almost perfect it's off a little at the bottom but the trim panel covers that.

It bolts in the front brace is welded to the bar.

We had to change the motor mounts to Ron Morris adjustable to clear the hood.

I see you used Ron Morris mounts. So this fits under factory hood?

I am assuming that is a 351w based stroker. Mind telling me what intake he is using?

I am installing a 351w stroker as well and hoping to fit under a factory hood and I am using the edelbrock rpm air gap and I have the r morris mounts with lower plates. According to my measurements I think it will just clear.

Also on the roll bar plates how thick are they? I am installing one that has 1/4" thick plates and wishing I had a 220v mig instead on 110v.

The owner wanted the car assembled so the stainless exhaust could be designed to fit around the Total Control Products rear suspension and subframe connectors in case anything had to be modified before paint.

You get a vin from Dynacorn.

But, I'm guessing, that these VIN's issued by Dynacorn are nothing like the original Ford VIN's, right? So, subsequent buyers will be able to immediately tell this is a aftermarket car. Meaning, I guess you could add whatever options you wanted and call it 'original'

Really liking the forum over my usual reading, especially with all the hands on work, helps to eliminate allot of questions. Back on page three you did something to the roof/quarter seam and A pillar that really caught my attention. Rather than soldier or fill, you welded in a plate between the roof line and quarter panel. Looked awesome, great idea. Realizing these joints flex in a typical unibody, but I also have subframe connectors and front torque boxes in my 66 coupe. Will that joint hold up? If it does, I plan on doing the same. I replaced a full quarter and have been questioning what to do to fill the seam.

The reason we had to go with the screw in studs was because they broke when you attached a clip and they were in the wrong place

Brian taped the body so we can epoxy prime the interior, inside the trunk and undercarriage.
We need to scuff the undercarriage first before the epoxy. After the epoxy the next step will be to spray the Lizard Skin.
