Third post. First was intro earlier tonight. Please see second post on 12” j 56 Vette brakes or other brake choices. Need to plan brakes with front suspension.

I am building a Trans AM Series replica from a ’73 Esprit (11” rotors). Rules stipulate 15 x 8 wheels, stock A arms and any brakes that were available at the time.

So two questions:
1. What set ups are you guys running?
2. Tall ball joints/minor “G Mod”/ offset shafts/offset bushings? Smoke, mirrors or magic?

Your feedback is much appreciated. I am sure I’m not the first one to stumble down this path.

Best,

Mike

Hey Mike ,
Vintage Trans Am cars are awesome.
They are the original inspiration for the pro-touring movement and build style.

Most of the people on here are setting their cars up for multipurpose use , like street driving , occasional autocross , or occasional track use .
And they are using modern production car / aftermarket upgrades ..( like 18" wheels , 13" or bigger brakes , tubular arms , 4-link rear suspensions , etc ).
I don't know that most of the cummulative knowledge ,that the majority of our members have, would be applicable to a "Legal" Vintage Trans Am Series car .
You will probably find better information if you look over on the Historic Trans Am site and contact an owner of one of the cars .

I have seen a few of those cars on the Internet , at the Mitty Historics at Road Atlanta , and at the Bobby Rahal Legends of Motorsports Events .
Most of them are using Minilite or American Racing replica wheels , and JL8 , or even Alcon brakes ..
They had the Guldstrand mod , Urethane , or Delrin bushings , and a ton of Negative Camber ( looked like 2+ degrees )
Sorry , that's about as much as I know ..

You might Message David Pozzi on here , he has a Vintage Trans Am car and has a lot of firsthand knowledge ..

I would head over to www.corner-carvers.com and poke around there. The racing knowledge is extremely deep.
