Second post. First was intro earlier tonight. From what I have read, lots of knowledge around here.

I am building a Trans AM Series replica from a ’73 Esprit (11” rotors). Rules stipulate 15 x 8 wheels, stock A arms and any brakes that were available at the time.

First thought is 12” j 56 Vette brakes. They are readily available.

So two questions:
1. Thoughts on “best” choice for road race brakes that are period correct? Or, are you guys running stock calipers and modern pads?
2. How do you mount the Vette brakes on a Bird spindle? Who makes bracket or custom spindles?

Your feedback is much appreciated. I am sure I’m not the first one to stumble down this path.

Also, please see my post under suspension on recomendations.

Best,

Mike

Hurst Airehart (sp?) were common back in the day. Herb Adams even had a kit using them. Also Guldstrand had some spindles modifies to take C3 Vette brake calipers also. I think they welded the bracket on the spindle. Up to 81 B bodies used a 12" (11.86 actual) rotors and the same caliper as F bodies -2 15/16 piston. Commonly called the 1LE swap as the 1LE third gen rotor still has thew 4 3/4 bolt pattern vs the 5" on B body rotors. They were on B bodies with 15" wheels.

I have a set of old Herb Adams weld in control arm bushings new in the box.
