OtI have a wheel stud that is spinning loose inside the rotor, so I can't remove the lug nut. Anyone have any tricks to get the lug off? Preferably without damaging the wheel.

If I was in your position I'd un do my brakes pull the cover off the rear diff, pull the c clip and pull the hole axle out and grind the back side of the stud off and pull it off

Pull the the rotor? Can you remove the caliper with the wheel in place?

Wow, that's a crappy problem. Now I'm puzzling over it. Do you have access to a lug nut splitter? That would blow the nut off and then allow you to get the wheel off to replace the stud. If not, a small cut off wheel on a Dremel can cut the nut on 2 sides and you can use a chisel to split it.

Got it!!!! I have long studs with open ended lugs. I drilled lots of small holes around the face of the lug to weaken it, then popped it a few times with a chisel until it came loose. Masking taped the hell out of the wheel so miniscule damage to it! NEVER want to run into that again!

Put a socket on the lugnut using a craftsman max access socket and drill the lugnut off.
