So I used to post on the board quite frequently, but eventually college classes and the social life took over and I stopped logging in. Now that I have graduated and am working (selling my beloved GM cars, for now) I am getting a really bad itch to finally get my pro touring dream in the works! My question, or the "reality check" I am looking to get answered, is what a build is costing these days? I know that is like asking "how long is a piece of string" but I'll try and give a little more detail so that maybe a few of you shop guys, or somebody with a better idea than I have, can give me some indication of time and pricing. If this isn't the right area, my bad, hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things quickly!

1968-69 Chevelle coupe
LS3/ 6 speed combo
Upgraded suspension all around (boxed frame, mini-tubbed (if needed), 3 link, etc.)
18x10 rear, 17x8 front forged
Disc brakes
shaved rails
GM White Diamond paint
Bucket seats up front
Full a/c and creature comforts

I have done all of the design and fab work on my van and, right now, I have a little over 20K into it... That is without paint and interior and another 3K I am throwing at the motor... Just buying hard parts that I can't make. I will have over 30K in it if it ever gets finished...

Just go buy a 4 year old Z07 Corvette and you will have everything you want for a lot less for a lot less than the price quotes above.

Everything except a rusty Chevelle body!

40 minimum, thats if you are able to do everything yourself. that also doesn't include tool costs and shop expenses.

Could it not be done under 30k?

Yes. If you do the body work yourself you can save a ton. It all depends on what you want.

I could build my car for $7500:

I definitely do NOT have creature comforts though.

What and where are you going to cut and go CHEAP on?

I would have to say the initial startup cost is going to determine a lot, that being the price of the Chevelle. Find an abandoned project someone has done the body work on and is in need of a drivetrain. Suspension can be pieced together pretty resonably if you take your time. If you can do the labor yourself you should be able to come in @30k

I appreciate the input y'all. Was figuring a number between 40-60 so it seems I'm not too out of touch. Hopefully Ill be able to get a car in the next few months and be able to start the project thread!

The price is not too bad when you think about it. You can get a decent driver and wrench on it as you go while still enjoying it. Save money and install parts then repeat. So you spread it out over a couple years while still enjoying it. Plus who has $50,000 to just spend off the top? Yeah i know that was a stupid question after joining this site. All depends what you want to do and what you want to work on yourself. Good luck!
