Well I was edging my driveway yesterday with my weedeater/edger and had a chunk of string hit my eye and nick the edge of my cornea. I had an apointment today for a follow up, and I was very lucky to come out of it without vision loss. I have to put a creme in it 4 times a day until its gone, seems like the tube will last over a week.
Here is the pic, its out of focus but that was try number 3 and the flash hurt so bad I didn't want to try anymore.

So I had to learn that lesson the hard way, don't follow in my steps.

Glad to hear you can still see...I ALWAYS wear eye protection. I'm a photographer by trade, so if the eyes go...so does my paycheck

i bought 3 sets of these: http://www.amazon.com/SAS-Safety-5420-50-Inspectors-Glasses/dp/B0015PI3CQ/ref=pd_cp_hi_0

They do have replaceable batteries. I wear them non stop and the lights come is handy any time that I'd under the car, so having lighting available that doesnt take me using a hand to get it motivates me to always put them on, even if I'm just under the car with a wrench. I had a scare where a piece of crud fell in my eye and I spent the next hour with eye wash trying to get it out. It sucks that we all have to learn this lesson the hard way!

I hope you're quick to mend.

Some of us are a little more hard headed. I've had steal slivers stuck in my eye 4 times. Ironically the first time I had safety glasses on.Was simply pushing down the trash in a trash can at work. Something blew up under and stuck. I even were them mowing the grass on my tractor not just weed eating.

looks like crap today but feels normal, very happy it wasn't worse. I almost never wore them before, started today by wearing them for 12 hours at work. seems like a I'm off to a good start.

the best fitting/most comfortable safety glasses i've found are these:

i use the clear ones in the shop & even bought a couple of the yellow ones for the shooting range. these fit me so well, sometimes i forget they are on my head & end up in the house watching tv. the mrs. comes along wanting to know what i'm watching that is so dangerous that i need to keep my goggles on...

Yes, these are the type I wear 8 to 12 hours a day. Mine even have reader lens in them.
