I do not want to put huge wheels on my car but I want the braking power of c6 disc's. Can I fit a 16" wheel over the c6 fronts?

Post #6 (more detail as to my set-up)

oh good information jpgolf14!! thanks for the picture, the only reason I ask is I just ordered 2005 (c6) spec Hawk quiet slot rotors and Hawk HP Plus pads for my set-up that im slowly placing together over the next month or two. I still need to order KORE3 hubs/brackets/lines and the C6 calipers/abutments and then I can start the install. Once I have them installed I wont be able to drive the car until a set of wheels has been chosen, so im just trying to gather as much info as I can right now.

Im also wondering if this front brake set-up is good to go with the factory manual brake booster

No. If you want OEM brakes that will fit under 16", I believe the LS1 Camaro's had 16" wheels, with the snowflake wheels. I'm 90% sure the C5 disc upgrade wouldn't even fit under a 16" wheel.

thats what I have been finding, looks like I will just have to run 17's

On the flip side, LS1 calipers and disc's stop very well given their size. Many times have I said hello to the steering wheel when I forgot a seatbelt.

I would not be so quick to dismiss the C6 brakes. The standard C6 rotor is only 12.8" I believe. I have personally run 13" rotors inside of IROC wheels. This is with Wilwood calipers. I would meaure first. These are 13"x1.1" C4 HD rotors.

I ran 16 inch American Racing Hopsters for a while with C5 brakes. It was very tight, it required caliper grinding and wheel spacers to make it work. I ended up getting larger wheels because the wheel spacers made the wheels stick out to far for my liking.

the wheel im looking at is a steel-type wheel, specs are 16x8 5" back spacing they cost maybe $80.00 so worst case I buy one to test fitment and if it doesn't work out I use it as a hose real in my garage

We've had customers fit the 340mm Z51 kits inside 17's with grinding, so depending on the wheel, 325mm C5/C6 kits and 16's might be feasible in the same way. Steel wheels typically have slightly more radial space than an similarly sized aluminum wheel, however 16's and C5/C6 calipers are not going to be a friendly combination any way you slice it and I'm not a fan of grinding down the bridge of the caliper to make it fit, otherwise what was the point of upgrading to performance brakes in the first place if you're going to compromise the rigidity of the calipers in the end.

Nothing to do with brakes, but why would you want to limit yourself to the relatively poor tire selection available in 16" sizes when 17's would be better for both the brakes and tire options?

My 13" Baer kit(similar caliper) will not fit my 16x8 Firebird/GTA wheels. And as Tobin mentioned the tire selection is getting poor for the 16s. Even finding a good 255-50-16 id tough now.

That's my thinking also. Trying to find a performance tire for my wife's '94 Formula, that was a bit bigger then the standard 245/55-16, was a lost cause. Went with 17's so I could run a 275/40. In fact ,if you do some checking, you'll find the 17" stuff is a lot cheaper then 16's. I got these off eBay for less then a grand! Shipped!

17's look perfectly fine on these cars. It's when you are getting into the 20"+ sizes and really thin sidewalls that you need to step back and think about it...

Yeah the GTA wheels are tough. They seem to have less clearance than many other 16's.

GTAs look pretty nice and are fairly light. Toyo seems to have the most 16" choices listed not sure of actual availability on them. BFG Comp TA2 are supposed to be available now.

The GTA wheels have quite a drop well on them, where the center meets the hoop. It really kills any chance of putting big brakes on those wheels. I think when I measured the wheels I had, the C5 rotor only cleared the drop well, no way the caliper would fit.

I ended up deciding to get 17x9 wheels mainly because of tire selection

I appreciate all the responses!
