Both wear a 100 tread rating from Nitto I believe. I'm running 555's in 245 45 17 now and 555R's (drag radial) in 275 40 17 on the rear currently.

Going to try and go to a 255 40 17 on the front in the NT01 for sure. They don't make the RII (road racing side wall but the drag radial tread pattern) in a 245/255.

So I'll definitely go with the NT01's on the front.

Now on the rear I can either go with the RII which is supposed to be the same tread pattern as the R but with a stiffer sidewall and different tread compound optimized for road racing/handling instead of drag race type traction.

OR there is the NT01 which wears the same tread rating but is supposed to be they're 'ultimate' road race tire. I don't mind if the fronts don't match the rears, just want the absolute best possible tire in these sizes for traction on street/track/autocross with about 5000 miles ish of street trim driving wear.
The tread depth on both from the factory is 6/32nds.

Thanks for any advice,

Donnie

BTW, I've had excellent luck with Nitto tires over the years. Been through about 4 sets in street trim. EXCELLENT traction even in the twisties with drag radials on the rear and 300 tread wears on the front. Not "R compound 275 front tire" traction of course but VERY good for a 245 street tire IMO. I can't wait to try either one but am open to others if something is comparable.

just like the NT05 tires were the sucessor of the 555s, The 555rII came after the nto1s. I like the 555rII better if you plan on driving the car on the street and encounter the unexpected rain storm.

In my experience, the 555rII is better in the wet weather in the same way that the nt05 is better than the NT555 ( which is a pretty big difference from my personal experience).

I've had excellent luck with Nitto as well. I just wish that they would stop molding their sizes so much smaller than competitors and that they would offer more 27" tall tires for 18 inch wheels :)
