i see everyones beautiful bad ass cars here, and i was just wondering, what did they look like before?
dirtpoor and i just started on my 70 rs, and its gnarly, to say the least.
so lets see the beasts before they became the beauties. horror storys/hidden nightmares, lets see the dirt. i will post some pics of mine as soon as i get my cardomain setup started.hopefully this weekend.
i love to look at the books at car shows that show the work involved, so lets have them. :pics2:

My before picture was during the time my Chevelle was my primary transportation. The after is current as of today actually. I'm working on a AFTER AFTER when its drivable again.
EDIT:(2 THINGS)
1 - sorry the bitmap doesnt show a thumbnail, Im not crafty enough to fix it.
2 - I had to white out part of the picture due to content of a "frank and mature nature." :P
due to content of a "frank and mature nature."

SOme of these pics still arent updated yet like the interior. Now I have 5" Autometer gauges stuffed into the original dash cluster. Also clear tail lights.

I was lucky, I actually started with a very solid rust free car. I have yet to do any body work or painting on it in the 15 years I've had it. The paint job is around 25 years old. Except for adding buckets and a floor shifter, it has the original interior right down to the carpet and even the cardboard rear package tray. Still sports the factory bumpers, emblems and trim, even the weatherstripping. Apparently the original owner kept it garaged all its life, although he lived down a dirt road and the car was covered with red mud when my dad and I picked it up, back when I was 15. If the guy had just washed and detailed the car he could have sold it for twice what he did. After a good detailing and replacing a few worn out parts, I took it to local car shows when I was in high school.
I=Except for the wheels and stance it still looks the same now, but there's not a single mechanical piece on the car that is still original :)

See my sig picture, that's how I got it. It's solid, maybe one tiny spot of rust and it's not going anywhere. The chrome and trim all need to be redone or replaced but that'll come in time.

sure.... its a 34 ford truck, the cab anyway. the chassis is "unique" in a few ways... it uses 2x3 main rails, with another set of inner rails from the firewall back, everything is tied together with 1 5/8" full cage, w/ integrated f. suspension points. the front suspension is made up of dropped spindles, C5 rotors/calipers, 1 3/8 dom upper and lower arms, mustang II style rack, all of it was designed & optimised using performance trends software.... along with some help from a few suspension gurus from the boards. the rear suspension is inboard brake jag set up, with a few mods to help it out. the cab/doors are vintage steel, the bedsides and hood will be aluminium, the grill shell is a chopped 32, which will be bare carbon fiber. the wheels/tires are 18x9.5 Z06 wheels with 285/40/18 G-force kd's...these will be hangin out in the wind....cuz real hot rods dont have fenders. engine will be a sbc, small journal ultralight billet callies crank, ultralight rods/pistons, afr heads, 358".... 9000rpm (the rest of the details are still "top secret":ssst: ) trans is still unknown, other than it will be manual. interior features custom built seats, with comfort and leg room in mind... the rest of the interior is strictly business.
this is being built as an "anti-streetrod", no chrome, no bling, no polished nothin... anything billet will be brushed. the only shiny paint and powdercoating will be on the chassis.... the steel body parts will be black primer, the rest will be natural aluminium & carbon fiber.
im a poor white boy, so this project is being built on a scrimp and scrounge budget, everything on it has been designed & fabbed by me, it will see regular track duty, along with "daily" street duty.... as my shop truck, until i decide to sell it to finance other projects on the waiting list (cobra kit car, awd 33 chevy 3 window coupe, 66 gto, 65 mustang) the truck was meant to be the ulimate racecar/hotrod blend... "racerod".... yet being built without spending billions of dollars on hightech exotic parts. frank from rpm drag racing is also building a racerod, and we have allready have a lil challenge in the works... so stay tuned, it should be a part of the members page over at lateral-g pretty soon.... so you will get to see a lot more pics of it there.

That is such a cool car, I cant wait to see it done. My favorite builds are based on pairing two unlikely cars and blending them. That car looks like a can am racer mated with a 32 ford and that is their evil offspring. I hope that made sense.

i knew you guys would love the wheels, space saver spares are great for rolling around on and working around. gutting original a/c interior now. body is pretty solid, floors, trunk and front of doors starting to pinhole, it got quarters in 91 before i bought it. the joker who owned this car before me had a habit of using exactly half the number of bolts that were originally used. owned it for 14 years, been out of comission since '96.
