Hey every one I'm sorry I haven't been on much.Between Dr.s appointments and my middle son haven't had much time to do a few things.
Well on to what's happening. My middle son who is 17 has gotten home a little eariler from Charlotte,N.C. He has Joined the Army signed sealed but not delivered yet.He graduates next June and will leave for basic training the first of July 2006. He is going to Fort Benning GA for basic training and his ait\ mos he has signed up and gotten locked into Infantry\ Airborne Rangers for 19 weeks.
As for myself and wife we are proud that he is following his dream.
I am also starting to get a handle on my health problems and will be tested for sleep apnea next month.
I also have given my son my Ventura so he can build it and have most of it done before he leaves next year. As for myself I going to do my Caprice Pro touring style in sleeper mode.I have found alot of good information on how to do it thanks to several people Including Primate and dirtpoor from b-bodied.org and impalassforums.com
Thanks,Cliff

Cliff, if the Army is anything like the Marine Corps, your son is locked into the infantry, but getting into special forces is a completely different deal.
Once he completes bootcamp and his MOS school, he'll be in the fleet for awhile until a sign-up list comes around for airborne. He then has to basically complete another bootcamp to get accepted.
Recruiters tend to leave this kind of info out of conversations. And again, I only know how the Marine Corps does it, so the Army may be different.
Just a heads up.

I'll never forgive myself for not trying to get into Embassy Duty when it came around.

Ft Benning is a great place to go through infantry school. And if your at Benning you can and do go straight to airborne and ranger school from infantry school. He'll have a blast just tell him to remember its just a game to get through basic if you make it you win, if you dont the D.S. won. So tell him after about 2 or 3 weeks he'll be in the swing of things and never want to go home. Oh yeah ranger school may be gauranteed but its not gaurenteed to make it past the first day!!!

He is really looking forward to going. He knows that he has to pass ranger school that he is only guaranteed to go to school but has to pass it to be a ranger. He still in hs and has rotc to where he can pick up his pt training and the recuriter is going to help push him.He already is in good shape but now he is going to be pushed harder, the SgtMaj. at his hs will make sure of that he has been real good in making sure that his students that has already signed up will make it.

good luck to him.... He joined the wrong branch (active Marine Corps here), but at least he is serving. My little brother was an Army Airborne guy up in ft. bragg. He did his 4 years and got out of active duty, staying in the reserves only to get activated for Iraq. Think he is still there... have not heard form him since Christmas time. I guess I should find out when he comes home again...LOL.

Well- this may indicate how long since I've been informed, but back when I went through some 'Army training' (courtesy of the Navy), you had to be selected for Rangers- not something a recruiter could promise up front. I could, and probably am, wrong.

That's what I thought too but the Army must have made changes I looked over my son contract and it listed as 11 Xray AIT after basic training then on to Airborne jump school then last Ranger School which he will ahve to pass,I feel sure he can do it he is 6'3" and 200lbs at 17 yrs.strong as a ox he pushes my Ventura like a tonka toy.He does chin ups in a tree and runs all the time along with push ups and sit ups.

I did the same thing when I was seventeen. I just graduated in June and I leave for ft.Jackson in august. I wish I would have waited to sign up because they are offering some good jobs and benefits right now. My only advice is for him not to slack off his last year in school. I started doing that because I wanted to have "fun" while I was still here. I graduated but just remember to keep his head in the game until he graduates.
