Hey guys, finally decided to start working on a project that I have had sitting around for two years. It's a 1970 Pontiac Firebird that started life as an Espirit. So, it was originally a V6 with an open diff. When I purchased it, it came with a motor swap for a 400 that I believe came out of a 73 Bonneville. At least that is what the engine code suggested. I was told the motor was freshened up. It still has the stock heads but is running an edelbrock intake with a 650cfm carb. Only other piece was the dual magnaflow mufflers running through an H pipe. This is quite the project. Body is pretty banged up and there is some minor surface rust on the roof and the entire suspension needs to be addressed. Engine runs great, just need to do a float adjustment on the carb. Needless to say this is a perfect candidate for a pro-touring project. My first step is to address the rear end, as the torque monster loves to spin one wheel all day. I do not have unlimited funds, so there will be some compromises. I'm thinking a rear end out of a late 70's Trans Am will do. Next upgrade will probably be a 4 speed. I may take my tax return next year and pick up a TKO-600, but a Muncie unit may have to do for now. From there I want to go four link in the rear and go RideTech coil-overs at all four corners. The next phase will be putting aluminum heads on the 400 and a cam. And last but not least, I'll start fixing the body. Looking forward to learning from you guys and watching you build your own projects. I'm located in NorCal, specifically in the South Bay and am a part of good sized group of car enthusiasts who like to go to meets and help each other out if you would like to join.

Another project I am currently working on is a Lemons race car. We are using an 85 toyota corolla that has a 5 speed and rwd. It's the gold car in the picture below. Currently we have half of cage built for it and hope to race next season. My 325is is my daily and the only mod is the loud ass pipes. It sounds mean, but it's almost all stock.

Thanx, Nick

Nick,

Welcome to the site! We have designed some great bolt-on suspension parts for your car.

We offer a rear Torque Arm suspension kit that bolts on to 10 or 12 bolt rears in 70-81 F-Bodies and even offer a bolt-on Ford 9" kit that includes a bare Strange housing for $600 more. Take a look at the link below detailing an install that a member here completed with our Ford 9 in. kit in his 1973 Firebird:

Same here! It currently looks like a Frankenstein due to the open 10 bolt and a built 400 under the hood. Nice to hear you've held onto it for so long.
