Hey Everyone-
New to this site, and excited to see so many great looking cars. I'm the 3rd owner of a 1968 Chevelle SS with a matching numbers 396 (L35) with a matching TH400. After the engine and drivetrain, not much is left original. The previous owner repainted the car from a teal blue to a bright red with white SS stripes and heavy silver flake in the paint (way too much for my taste). The dark blue interior was gutted as well and is now black. Unfortunately when the prior owner got the new paint job he changed out the 68 tail lights to 69s :hammer:. I have 68 housings and as soon as I can find a good painter near me to match the paint I will be changing them back. I've owned the car about a year. So far I've put 18" Foose Legends on the car when I got it last year and will soon be changing the suspension. I have several questions as I go down the pro-touring road so I'm excited to be here.

Welcome to the site....... I personally prefer the 68's over the 69's, but dont tell anybody...:secret:
Since you are thinking of a suspension upgrade, I usually ask a few questions before I make any suggestions to determine the best possible bang for the buck.
I think many guys spend more than they need or will use. I pride myself in asking as many questions as possible before making a decision on what is best for the customers hard earned money.
First question is what do you have for goals for the car once it is done? Is it going to be a factory restoration, daily driver/weekend cruiser, weekend warrior/drag car, Pro-Touring/handling machine, etc.
Second question is do you need and/or plan to improve the braking & steering systems to compliment any suspension upgrades?
Third question is do you have a specific budget in mind?
Lastly, do you plan to do the work yourself?

Hey Rich-
Thanks for the feedback. Here's my answers:
1) The car only gets driven 1-2 times a month (Washington weather sucks) and only as a cruiser. This car will never be a trailer queen as l long as I own it but I would like to do some upgrades so it can be respectable at a show if I chose to My goal is to improve overall handling, especially on windy roads but it won't be auto-crossed or taken to the track. Finally I want the look of a lowered/aggressive but was hoping to go with springs instead of coilovers.

2) The second owner put CPP disc brakes on front and it still has drums on the back. I've debated about getting a big brake kit but my budget is pretty tight and it would have to be down the road. The steering I don't plan to change.
3) The only suspension upgrades that are on the car currently are Hotchkis rear control arms and KYB gas shocks. I'm interested in getting a suspension kit with sway bars, drop springs (2" drop if possible), new shocks and control arms. My budget is in the 2k range. On a side note, when I bought the car it came with Hooker Super Comp headers which I quickly changed out since they were hanging so low. I've now gone to Hedmans and have about 5 3/4" clearance.
4) Nope, I will have it installed.

We have four different kits that work great on these cars and we are just about to release new 2" drop springs for the front. Our level 1 kit will probably work best for you with 2" springs front & rear:

Here is a install article that the folks at Chevy Hi Performance did on our Level 2 kit:

We built a 71 Chevelle for the Super Chevy Handling Challenge that out handled a C5 Vette at the time.

I meant 2k for the suspension, not the whole project!
