Build this into a pour touring car or just restore it and park it in a time capsule? I have playing with the idea of a built up 3800 series 2 with a decently sized supercharger or switching it to a turbo. However I want disc brakes on all 4 corners and it to handle right. Now Im afraid Im getting it away from its roots however its not any worse then whats happening to it sitting there rotting.

What would you do if you had it to build?

Depends where you ask. On Pro-touring.com we want to see Pro-touring!! Turbo is a must, so mite as well make all the other changes you want too.

The ONLY value that car has is due to the fact that the car is a 1982 Grand National and there were very few made (215). As an original the car is slow, 2 tone and offers none of the real aspects that Grand National buyer's want want other than this is 1st model year GN. I know I am impressed with that 125 BHP rating!

Unless your car is already a time capsule original 1982 GN you will never recoupe the cost of restoration since those cars are not that desirable or valuable yet. I have passed on several rough 82 GN's at $2K-$4K. Neat cars but no real market other than for a time capsule type of car.

Cut it up and enjoy the car the way you want it. You can still brag about the "K" in the VIN while you are enjoying your car!

1982 Buick Grand National coupe. See more pictures of Buicks (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/enlarge-image.htm?terms=Buick+Cars&page=0&gallery=1).

A 4.1-liter V-6 produced a mild 125 bhp -- sufficient to make the GN a reasonably brisk performer, but one easily outclassed by the relatively mild Camaros and Firebirds of the day, and even by its less flashy sibling, the turbocharged Regal T-Type. Still, the '82 Grand National was a great-looking car, and the fact that just 215 were built for the model year would seem to make collectibility obvious. Pluses of the 1982 Buick Grand National:

Low production
Striking good looks
Easy to repair and maintain
Minuses of the 1982 Buick Grand National:

More show than go
Neither as fast nor as desirable as Grand Nationals that came later in the decade

This...though I doubt I'll get much grief from the purists for cutting up an '83 T-type.

Unless its a <25K mile, untouched original, I'd modify it to the point it could never be turned back to stock.

In a world of 600 HP cars rolling out of the factory, a stock '82 GN isn't going to leave an impression on many people, just like they did in 1982.

I remember to early 80's well. My daily drivers were a '71 SC360, a '71 Cuda340 and then a 5.0 and I thought the '82 GN's were a Joke...something "old guys" bought... A sticker parkage with nothing to back it up and even the turbos were slugs.

It wasn't until 1986 that "non-buick" people gave a crap about a modern Buick. So the target audience of a stock '82 GN is about 1% of the People interested in "muscle cars" and that 1% would be the only ones that cared or could even tell if you modified it to your liking.

Mine was the turbo 3.8 model and made a whooping 175! Now that is what the k means and the eigth digit being a 3 stands for the motor if it was a 4 there would be a 4.1 in it, its a ak47 car...

It dosent matter I going to build it the way I want, and besides it will have a turbo 3.8 in it just got to decide which one to go with.
