so I'm curious, has anyone here ever made custom guages? I don't mean just put a set of autometer ultra-lites in their car, but taken those apart and put in their own custom face?

I was going to get a set of Bonspeed Roulette guages, I thought it would be cool to have something different in the car other than the standard autometers. These are the Roulettes:

but my buddy bought them for his Elky already...so i dont want to be a copier. So I was wondering if anyone had done their own designs before, and if so pics would help if ya got them.

First, LOL love your new signature!
Second, Classic Instruments are doing the gauges for my car. They have a great selection of sizes and duel guages. I was able to get a set that would fit the factory pods on the Pontiac. Here is the style going in the GTO.

Bill, are you gonna have your Pro-Tour GTO logo on the guages? That would be sweet!

We're using the all-american set form classic......I would have never thought it until I saw them in person...they look amazing. The pictures don't do them justice...

It fits our polished & brushed aluminum theme in the interior unbelievably well

I know this is an old thread but I thought that I would show a gauge that I just finished working on for our 65 Olds F/85. I used a Universal Laser System to create the face. The most difficult part was getting the bezzel off and on again. It looks pretty good but if anyone has a real good way to dissasemble these Autometers then let us all know!! Thanks.

I didn't build "custom" gauges but I did put aftermarket gauges in the stock dash including fuel gauge in the center (my dash didn't come with a tach):

Check out my build thread in my sig for more details.

They weren't terebly tough to disassemble.. Just slowly peel back the bezzel around the perimeter and then pull the bezzel off. After that I marked were the gauge pointed and then pulled it straight off. Following that I just unscrewed the face and proceded to scan it and recreate it on my laser.

No need to go to all that trouble to customize Autometer Ultra lites. Just hook up with Steve and Michelle at Twisted Machine and get some black anodised, polished, or brushed bezels. Stick them on and........

Phillip,

What software did you use and what type of paper/decal? I thought most laser inks didn't hold up well in the long run. Isn't that a concern?
