View Full Version : Tru-Turn, anybody use non A/F body brakes with them?

I'm contemplating selling my AFX spindles and brakes to get the Tru-Turn setup, but I think it would be a lot easier and more convenient if I could get the Tru-Turn system and just build some brackets to use my current C5 brakes.
Has anybody done this before? I bet Tobin could do it, but I'm just wondering if anyone's already done it.
Honestly I don't even know if it's possible so if it's not, let me know.

Matt why do you want the tru turn over the afx tall spindles?i thought the afx stuff was far superior than the true turn system.just asking.also will your afx spindle work on an abody? I would buy those from you if your selling.phil

Whatever conversion bracket that that is used on a stock spindle should work on the Ridetech unit.
Each version has its advantage. The ability to use a big back space rim is one of them in favor of the Ride tech system.

The Ridetech caliper mounting points are the same as stock. However there may be trimming of the brackets around the spindle casting.
We have sold tons of Tru Turns but no feedback on brake fitment issues.
The feedback on the Tru Turn itself has been nothing short of amazing! Just make sure you have a good solid steering box with no play...

I had stock spindles with a Kore 3 C5 brake kit and i switched to Ridetech spindle and just put the Kore 3 brackets and hubs on the new spindles. All brake kits that fit stock spindles will(should) fit the Ridetech spindles.

As has been stated, the Ridetech 2" drop spindle is designed for the OE disc brakes, so most anything that was designed for the OE disc spindles should be compatible with the Ridetech spindles.

Nothing against the AFX spindles, I just want the super super low bumpsteer and 10" wide wheels on a stock subframe that the Tru-Turn system has. Yes, the AFX spindles will work on A-bodies, you just need to get the ATS/Speedtech steering arms. If the brake dilemma is as simple as getting hubs and brackets from Tobin, I might be selling them pretty soon.
Also assuming my headers will clear lol.
So Tobin, I basically have your C5 brake it. I got it from another company that appears to have gone out of business, but it's basically just C5 rotors and calipers that bolt onto my AFX spindles. Would I just need your billet hub kit and brackets for the calipers to make my brakes work with the new spindles?

Yes, if you have calipers/pads/rotors/hoses already from your AFX spindles, then all you would need are the KORE3 GM short-spindle (GMSS) brackets and hubs to mount those components to the Ridetech spindle.

While it's being discussed, do you have the .625 inch spacer for the top most bolt hole to adapt your bracket to the disc design spindle (Ridetech)? Or do you make a separate bracket for that application?

Crap, I just jacked the car up to measure for new wheels but I forgot to check the header clearance. I want to be sure I won't have any problems before I commit to anything. Some time this weekend I'll double check the clearance and get back to you.

why couldnt you use the ats steering arms for an a body and turn them to rear steer configuration and use the Afx spindle? That is all Ridetech did is use the a body steering arms in a rear steer configuation.

Sorry it took so long, been kinda hectic around here lately. I'm gonna go check my headers and hope the system will clear. If it does I'm willing to make a deal!
Also, I already emailed Ridetech, but I'd like an answer ASAP so I can order some wheels, but since these wheels allow up to a 10" wheel, would a 17x8 with 6" of backspacing be able to fit or is that too much backspacing?

Just wondering why don't you order the True Turn without the RideTech spindles first? I know Blake tried the TT with the AFX's and it worked. Not sure of the details but I would call Speed Tech and see what they have to say first? You can always order the Ride Tech spindles later if the setup does not give you the results you are looking for. This way you would only have to spend half of the money now and not lose money on the AFX spindles until you know how it works. Just a thought?
As for the wheels I think Bret said "some" 17 inch wheels would work but there are a lot of different 17 inch wheels so they couldn't try them all. If I remember the 18's they used had like 6 1/2 of bs on a 18 inch Forgdline wheel?

He did note, most billet/machined 17" wheels would clear, 18"er's would clear, but cast 17"er's might not fit.

Here's a link to the thread... check post #134 https://www.pro-touring.com/showthread.php?81129-RideTech-Tru-Turn-System/page7 It wouldn't hurt to read the whole thread. There is a lot of good information, including header fitment.

Still, as you read the specs, the Ridetech spindles and tru turn is the ULTIMATE with a good steering box!

Well crap, I'm getting some Summit brand cast aluminum 17's.
Screw it, I'll just get the 17x7's for up front and be done with it.
