I’m working on a European Ford that utilizes a true Mac Strut front suspension. I want to replace the track arm (1 leg of the lower control arm) with a fabricated part. The ball joint is an inseparable assembly from the track arm, so I’m looking for a ball joint with similar diameter and taper. Surely there must be a place on the web that ball joints are cataloged, so I can compare dimension. Doesn’t bother me if I need to ream the strut some to accommodate a slightly different diameter or taper.

For those interested, true Mac Struts use the front stabilizer bar as one leg of the lower A-arm, similar in purpose to the tension strut a certain well known Ford front suspension design produced in the mid-70’s. I want to separate the fore-aft location control from the sta-bar, so it’s only used for roll control, and building an A-arm replicating the track arm with one leg and adding a compression strut function on the other leg of the A-arm. Intention is to reduce binding as the suspension moves through it’s travel.

In GM cars, there are two tapers used, a 7 degree on 1970 and earlier cars, and a 10 degree used by GM when they went to cast steering knuckles. Then there are different diameters to deal with.
If you can find a Moog catalog it has dimensions listed, but only as diameters, not tapers. I did find this list: http://www.valleycruisersnb.com/BallJts.htm

I would take a spindle and ball joint to a large parts store or warehouse and start digging. If you find something close, you might be able to ream the spindle to fit the new ball joint. I'd start with the Chrysler screw in ball joints since they are so commonly used in circle track racing, there are some smaller sizes that are interchangeable with 67 Camaro ball joints.
