Whats up board, i took the GTO to the scales a few months ago and reality hit me of how much my car weighed -__-. It tipped the scales at 3920lbs w/ half a tank of gas and no driver :squint:. Keep in mind i am running an iron LSX block which I believe is ~200lbs heavier than its aluminum counter part. Another big deal for me is unsprung weight. I already have a carbon fiber D/S. Here is a list of the thing I am doing to accomplish my goal.

Racing seats
Lightweight Battery
Fuel Cell
Lightweight wheels
Lighter tires with traction
F/G Hood
Aluminum Exhaust
Rear Seat Delete
Lightening the rear rotors

According to my math i should reach my goal easily. I will be posting pictures of the process soon!

The front seats alone weigh ~120 lb from what I have seen on another board where people are putting them in Montes.

What are you going to do to the rear rotors?

You are right! That bucket seats are a big weight reduction! The GTO has a HUGE pad area. So i drilled holes on the points where there is the least amount stress.

Thats what i bought. ;)

This is a street car and the fuel cell goes in the OEM spot. The tank is acutally steel with a plastic cover.

Thanks man, i had it custom made locally. The baffels we did it to resemble the OEM unit, since this car is daily driven i wanted to keep things as OEM type as possible.

LOL, yea that would be major weight reduction.

Put up some whole car pictures!

Will do! I will try to get up some pix by tomorrow.

BTW i reweighed after the modifications and the car came in at 3400! I will go to another scale to double check it though but im ecstatic about that!

The dash and air condition units in those cars are really heavy. If you want to remove those I'll take them off your hands and I'll help take them out also.

Those would definitely be staying! I drive this car almost everyday. And in Fl, you need A/C! LOL

Can't blame you for that. I meet a guy at a race the other weekend that said he would sell me the accessorie drive setup for $100 and said if I could have the dash and HVAC box if I took it out. I've tried multiple times to call left voice mails and sent text but can't get him on the phone. I want a gto dash for my amx project.

Thats a great deal! I love the dash on these cars. One of the best in an American car in a long time. And it would look awesome in an old school car.

Heres a pic of the new all aluminum exhaust. In under carriage pic you can see the carbon fiber driveshaft as well.

Please tell the little bolts I see are not holding your seat in. Also you may want to put a heat shield around your fuel pump.

Love to see pics of the car

I had an 05 GTO, great cars.

Look into lightweight BMR cross member and removing the trunk "floor brace" for the tow hitch.
