Wondering if your going for look or heat reduction. I recently got my headers JET Coated- a porcelain paint which will do both, looks and heat but can get costly. Cant say for sure but you may be able to lightly scuff and degrease the metal and give it a few light coats of a quality metal etching primer and then use a high heat paint. Looks good but not gonna reduce heat. Bright side, easily touched up as you need. Hope you find what you need.

I believe you can get jet hot coating in black. there are also other types of ceramic coating I have seen in black. I have seen people do the high temp powder on them too. I am planning on the same thing and not sure what way to go.

I was going to say to run the engine really, really rich but then realized that maybe I misunderstood the question.... :-)

I have used BBQ high heat paint on exhaust before with great results. Just a good scuff and degrease and shoot. No primer with the paint I used.

Can't powder coat because it starts to flow at 400 degrees. My powder coater recommended the ceramic coatings for headers. The Jet Hot is awesome but you need to send your headers to them. In the past I used the VHT paint which worked fine but show grease easily and doesn't clean up well... But you can easily touch up the paint. The VHT is way cheaper too.

Can't powder coat because it starts to flow at 400 degrees.

Regular powder for powdercoating will flow at 400 but there are others out there that will work with higher temps.

I had my headers and intake black ceramic coated by performance coatings in Auburn, WA. The other intake in the pic is my sister's. She had hers silver ceramic coated but after seeing mine wished she had gone with black.....

I have been using Cradin Ind. in Bornie,Tx over the last 10 years. He has the flat chrome and a cast black that has a grafite look. Each of the colors has a difrent thermal resistance I belive that the cast black is in the 3000deg. range I have a customer that has had 35 sets done over the last 2years and is very happy. They generaly have a good turn around time. phone # 830-249-9580

I second the cheap barbeque paint. It's maybe four or five bucks at Home Depot, and one can will do mufflers and most pipe beyond your headers. Yes, it does resist heat effectively...

The barbeque black does work well, I did the exhaust on the Camaro with it. Paint is still on the headers even right by the port so it holds up pretty good.
