Finally here...forward facing headers to fit O-port

First generation firebirds
Second generation firebirds
68-73 GTO/Lemans/Tempest (A-body)
70-73 Ventura
MAYBE 64-67 GTO etc (A-body). Problem here is we dont have a test frame for trial fitting.

They are ready to go. 1st set has been built, jigs finished to reproduce. Its a done deal. They are 1 3/4" mild steel 4 tube into forward facing collectors. 2" versions will be available later, but unless you have an IA2 block I wouldnt want them personally. My car made just under 1100 hp with tiny 1 5/8" headers and iron heads that flowed 230 cfm at .600 on the intake. That was with some awfully tight 180 degree bends before reaching the turbo on my old setup too. Too large just means a slow spool up.

An option is available to weld V-band flanges to the end of the collector (price varies on whether you want a 2.5" or 3" outlet collector...I'd recommend 2.5" for most). An option is also available for a cone to be added to each collector inside ($30 extra). I am looking into coating locally for these if you opt to have the v-band clamps added. Bungs for sensors can be added as an option too.

Essentially you will have to add your own crossover pipe and turbo/wastegate flange, but thats minor compared to the work thats been done to make these things fit. My turbo will be back on the firewall again, but most of you like it up front.....or twins of course.

Base price for headers before any options is $650, and if you order now they are in the box and on their way to you in 7-10 days. Let me tell you that these things took some WORK to get laid out properly to clear frame, steering shaft, steering gearbox and a-arms. The pics show them without collectors but the collectors ARE included.

There will be a 2nd design on the drivers side for anyone who wants it (especially 2nd gen birds with that steering gearbox forward) for the collector to extend farther forward than in the pics. That design will be complete next week. D-port version is also available by pre-order, but due to the jig modifications that need a few more days they will be 14 days from order time if ordered now. That timeframe will shorten once the 1st set is shipped.

Posting a few pics here, but more can be seen at

P.S. - THE SET PICTURED HAS TACK WELDS IN MOST SPOTS ONLY AS EACH ONE HAD TO BE DISASSEMBLED TO REPRODUCE EACH PIECE. THOSE ARE NOT FINISHED WELDS. IF YOU WANT EXAMPLES OF FINISHED WELDS PLEASE LOOK OVER AT PERFORMANCEYEARS.COM IN THE TECH FORUMS, IN THE EXHAUST SECTION UNDER TRIBAL TUBES TRI-Y HEADERS. LOTS OF PICS THERE.

Thanks guys. The basic recipe is this, and its been repeated multiple times. Go over to Performanceyears.com in the tech forums under BOOST, or on pontiaczone.com under the 2 turbo headings.

forged pistons with compression around 8:1 if using iron heads, 8.5:1 is ok with aluminum heads
quality aftermarket rods

Engine wise thats all you need to make about 900 or so hp with a 455. Maybe a few less hp with a 400. There are guys doing it with unported heads.

On the turbo side if you buy all new stuff this is an idea of what you can expect to spend......but many guys buy some used stuff.

BW S475 75mm turbo $600
CSU blow thru carb $950
carb hat $150
ignition that can pull timing with boost - varies. Mine is a Mallory hifire VI
HD fuel pump capable of handling the hp levels (Mine is aeromotive A1000) and a boost modulated fuel regulator, bigger fuel lines, etc $700
wastegate....ebay type is cheapest and many use them, Tial etc is expensive. Mine is an ebay type and I think was $125
Blow off valve......same idea as above $100
aluminum piping kit from ebay with silicon connectors and clamps $100
turbo headers. some people build their own log style headers with VERY good results. Buy the headers here for $650, and by the time you add some v-band clamps and get them coated you are probably looking at $850
various other small things like a boost controller, flange and bracket getting made up to mount the heavy turbo itself, etc.....a couple of hundred more if you cant do it yourself. An air/fuel sensor and gauge is pretty important, same with a boost gauge and fuel pressure gauge. There are optional things like an intercooler or meth/water injection

So all told right around $4000 for new stuff. But looking for good used buys on some things can knock it back a bit. Careful bargain hunting can probably knock it back to $2700 or so. Build your own headers and maybe even closer to $2000. If you are starting with an engine that has aftermarket or ported heads....you can easily be in the 1000 plus hp range. Mostly stock engines with good rods and forged pistons up to about 1000 hp.

Its a lot of money, but keep in mind most of the guys making 1000 hp have spent 15K to 20K on their engines, To top that off they are often race gas only cars, with nasty sounding cams and valvetrains that tend to eat things up with time. Not so much our turbo cars. We can use mild cams that are easy on the street. We can use pump gas. Unlike a blower the engine isnt always under boost....when cruising you are getting decent mileage. But when you step on the pedal.............

Here is a passenger side completely finished now, with cone.....waiting for collector.

Try on Pontiac zone board, see if anyone has a set laying around
