New to this world of computers. Gonna make an effort cause I like what I see on this site. Wondering if there are any events that a new commer might attend in the Toronto Canada area. Looking for an excuse to bring the car out. Here are some pics.

Interstesting choice of body modifications, turned out really nice.

Did you fabricate the front spoiler, or is that off the shelf?

Welcome!

Car was built to a transam look six years ago but this winter i made a lot of changes. I got my hands on a prototype 67 shelby carbon fiber hood, nose piece and a carbon fiber California Special rear lid. That got the new look going. Dropprd the front end 2.5" and put in the new CPP suspension. 2" drop in back. Rim and rubber are now 18" (from 15" ) with 245 in front and 295 in back. Manual disc breaks on all four corners. Shortened 8.8 to accommodate the 9.5" rims. Running a 351 SVO create motor married to a T-5 and a 355 gear. Thanx for the interest!

Made it out of aluminum - after my fourth wood template. Put in functional break cooling ducts. Was always into the race look and love well placed spoilers but its kind of touchy with the 68 body style so thanx for the compliment.

Funny, turns out the file is too big. gonna have to figure out how to reduce the image or reshoot in a lower resolution. The seats themselves are called Tuner FX. Very nice change from stock. Welded a plate to the tracks to give me more backward adjustment while still using the same mounting holes. They are also feather light in comparison to stock.

I dont suppose you would have any suggestions on the rear suspension for the coupe? It handles great for a street car but next winters projects would be rear suspension and steering box to finish the handling side of things

I just installed Ride Techs coilover 4-link in my 2nd Gen F-body, and am very happy with the results. So this is the direction i'm going in the rear with my Boss 302 clone. the front is already done with TCP coilovers and power rack.

Thanx for the props. Just checked out your ride. Great choice of colour and power plant. Wicked stance. Great clean lines. Before i built the stang, I enjoyed myself in a lowered 69 firebird rag with a chev 355. Had it from 94-03 Wasn't as popular here in Toronto to fit even 17" rims under a muscle car back in 1997 but i did and loved it. Torque thrust ll . I like your choice. 20's and 18's?

Angelo, I just joined the site and saw your pics. Great looking ride. I'm working on a '68 right now and was wondering if the folks who you got the prototype from have any intention of producing those pieces. I was hoping to stay away from fiberglass for my build and everyone I know would be doing custom work. Regardless, great looking car and welcome.

What's the story on the offset shifter / exposed linkage? Looks awesome.

Angelo
06-11-2012, 01:09 PM
The shifter is named RESTOMOD buy the company who makes it. It moves the positioning back from the stock position so that the shifts are a lot shorter and more like a modern mustang. You can pretty much put the shifter as close to right thigh as is comfortable and mark the four new holes for the bottom plate and put it in. Last i saw the piece was worth a couple of hun.

How much did you shorten rear? If you used a 275 tire would you have to narrow? Thanks for input...oh & NICE CAR!

07-10-2012, 01:05 PM
Hey Big Eddie, It's more about the rim, in this case, than the rear end. Reason for this is because the rear end was originally shortened for another set of rim and rubber and with the offset of these new 18's, i had to use spacers to get the rims off the inner wheel wells. Now that you asked, I'm thinking the stock length could have been close to working just fine. I really just wanted to centre 11.5" of rubber with deep dish rims into the rear quarter and was prepared to adjust the rear axles to do it. The rims are the Boss 338's i believe . 275's will easily fit, provided you have the proper rim offset.

Finally got to the scales and the car came down to 2850 lbs. with a half tank of gas. Better than the 3050 it was before restomodding the car and adding in all the carbonfiber. Of course this means i can keep eating those cheeseburgers and still be fast

Man, I'm totally digging this car! 68 coupes are my second favorite mustangs (close second too 69 fastback). I guess I will have to get one and build it for the old lady to drive.... any excuse right?

Hey thanx for the props JC. I've always bin into the fastbacks myself but i don't know if i would have gone this far with a fastback. So I'm glad the coupe crossed my path cause i don't think I've ever had so much freedom to create something a little different. BTW the shifter is as sweet as it looks! Is the car in the photo yours cause i thought the chevy11 had clean lines-I never imagined the ford to be even better! WOW

649466494764948649496495064951Doing this whole thing backward but i just came across some old photos and thought id throw them up. I started the project in 2005 and the next shots is where i arrived in 2006 with the help of my cousin Tony as well as our friend Martini. As i said, the build was transam inspired originally. The car stayed that way right up to Dec of 2011 where my cousin came across the carbon fiber components, by accident while looking for a fiberglass hood scoop. Same cousin who found me the car in the first place. He also found me the crate motor and the shifter along with loads of other stuff. Also, with the help of my close friend Dino, on the entire restomod build, finished april of 2012, i find myself with the newest version of the car. So a big thanks goes out to the boys. With all the long hours and late nights... sounds like its time to sell the car LOL !

Angelo

Don't know how much of a restomod my 69 firebird was, but i did put 17 x 8 Torque Thrust II on it back in 1997 and added the transam rear spoiler, chin spoiler and dropped in a very healthy 355 chev motor.Enjoyed it for 9 yrs and then sold it before the mustang build so that we were a father and son mustang family. Both viper red to-boot. Sorry for the lousy quality.

There's nothing more TA (TransAm) than a '68 Mustang. I had two of them (as well as a '68 Firebird/400), one of which I smashed into a guardrail at about 60, while in college--that was a crappy semester... I also had a '67, with an awesome bench seat. The '68 is also of course iconic in the fastback version, what with Bullitt and all. Keep up the good work!

713747137571376Hi guys. Just thought I'd post a few picks of the new addition to the family. I have plans to restomod my 71. Hope to start work on it in a couple of weeks when work slows down. For those of you who are into the big stangs, I will post shots along the way. Intentions for the car is family cruiser with air conditioning, lowered, big rim and rubber and big brakes for this big boy. The biggest change is some bolt on body mods I intend on designing for the front facia and possibly, the rear facia. Oh ya, and a couple of cup holders. Here goes nothing!

True. I never really gave them much attention myself but the more I see them, the more I like them. I just need to be careful that my ideas do the car justice. It would be easy to turn sweet lines into junk. Thanx

747537475474755Hi all. Bin working on the 71 since i picked it up a month ago. So far its been pulled apart electrically from bumper to bumper and made perfect. Didnt need too much attention since the previous owner had installed a Ron Francis box and harnesses (nice treat to find). Car also received a great sound system. A TMI interior on order cause it looks so good as well as a wood grain Shelby style steering wheel. In the process of lowering the front end with a set of springs and the rear end with a bag over leaf set up from Air Ride. Put aside the 71 stock 8" for a 68 9" posi with a taller gear and SSB rear disc set up. Still have intensions on modifying the front grill and chin spoiler. Any other body mods have to wait till next winter since i want to drive the car. I have a shot here of a racing wheel and tire as inspiration for my direction on this car. Was thinking 18s and 20s for a long time but something about the style of this car says 15s with big sidewall. Have a set of 28" diameter tires to go in place of these 26" rear tires. I like the idea of making the Magnum 500s look racey since they were already there. Was looking for Goodyears with Billboard lettering but nothing that was really cruise friendly crossed my path after an extensive search so BFG it is.

Angelo

275/60-15 (28" tall)rear and 225/7-15 (27.4" tall) front. The rim in the photo was just a mock up. The final choice was to go with no red pin stripe. The rim was primed ,painted and clear coated with automotive paint in spray cans. It was a metallic graphite colour of Nissan I think.

I don't plan on having any gap between the tire and the top of the flare. It will be lower when im done. Can't go for the slam however, since i dont want to mess with the inner tubs or compromise the drivability with the weight of the whole family. Always loved a good widebody look but not prepared to go any further than a swaybar on leaf-springs and air shocks-bang for the buck!

Going to tackle the other side tomorrow. Im hoping to pick up the foam this week so I can glue it to the end caps, truck and lower valance and finish up the rear of the car in a couple of weeks.

Creating the deep light pan by extending the length of the rear of the car by nearly three inches. Some might think that's nuts for this mustang since its already such a long looking car but funny enough it will only be 4 inches longer than the 68 when its complete.

Hi all. I'm staying with a stock rear suspension setup on the 71 with a 3" drop. Anyone know if the drop poses a problem with installing a stock rear sway bar? Will there be too much of an angle for a proper fit. It seems my options are pretty limited. I'm not sure if there is an adjustable version or if adjustability is even a solution. Thx.

Finished shapes for the rear of the car so now i moved on to addressing my ideas for the front. I shoot these photos and convert them to black and white so i can get a better understanding of the shapes and proportions i end up with. Make big changes or small tweaks, either way the photos really help the design process since I'm pretty much winging it. I figure i got the final stance very close so now i can figure out how low i can go with the front facia and chin spoiler.

It is set Only a 1/2" from the leaf spring and the inner wheel well. I found an already narrowed 8.8 and had custom billet hubcentric spacers made to find the sweet spot. It Must have a sway bar or it rubs the top of the inner wheel well when turning. With the sway bar nobody touches, even in extreme cornering.

Thats impressive you got it in a stock wheel well, if I end up staying leaf for the moment I was already planning on a panhard setup so that I can get the largest rear tire I can without rubbing.

Transam racing back in the day was leaf and pan hard bar and look at how they threw those cars around. Good luck. I'm a fan of making the impossible happen. Has anyone out there ever used an electrically actuated e brake? How difficult is it to install in my 68 and 71 since the standard method for either car is not going to work for one reason or another. I'm looking for a good solution that will give me the safety factor seeing as how both cars are stick and I have young children that may at some time in their lives want to get curious and touch the shifter.

I know I'm bringing back an old thread...but...I have a few questions about your wheels on your 68. What is the BS and width on the front and rear wheels? How much is your rear narrowed? Are those 245 fronts and 295 rears? The reason I ask is because my 68 has a 66 rear in it so I got about 1" extra on each side and I really want to run 18" wheels. It has a ridetech coilover suspension all around so I don't have to worry about the rear wheels hitting the leaf springs. Like I said, sorry for bringing back an old thread but I really like the stance of your 68 with those wheels and would like mine to have a similar look.

A great solution is an E-STOPP setup.
You can take a look at our YouTube video showing its use in our '5 Bel-Air. We use it in all of our vehicle builds including the high dollar ones in our shop.
If you need anymore information, be sure to contact us at: [email protected], we're just a province over and a dealer for E-STOPP products.

Hi. I'm sorry I didn't respond to this earlier. I really wasn't keeping an eye on the thread. I will be happy to get you the exact length of the rear end and the backspace measurements for you once I get the car out of storage in a month and back to my shop. It isn't the first time I've been asked for that info but it's been 4 yrs and a couple of builds ago and the numbers escape me. It is however a 295 on an 18x9.5 in the rear. The 8.8 was out of a cobra but was shortened by someone else for another application. I bought it from that person and had custom billet spacers cnc'd for me to find the sweet spot without cutting anywhere.

Sounds good. Thanks

Dusting off the neglected coupe and installing a smoother mustang Steve clutch quadrant. A power disc brake booster and master and a Borgesen power steering box. All to make the car more driver friendly.

Love the stance and rim/tire combo. Did you have to tub at all to get the rears to fit?
