Ok stupid question time. I'm getting ready to have my vent windows rechromed. I have NOS handles and nuts from YEARS ago. So that's no big deal. SO, I attached an exploded view from the parts manual. Since I haven't looked at my windows ina very long time I wanted to double check which parts to have rechromed. Based on the diagram it looks like items 1 and 3 get rechromed. #13 is stainless (?). The cross brace, item 24 does not get rechromed. Or does it ???

Thanks for the help. Sucks getting old ... LOL

When getting them rechromed you need to look at the detail of the edges on the main piece, some pieces were really cleaned up and others were not. the casting flash can be seen on some and needs to be removed when getting rechromed and some have had so much done to them they lost some of the detail. These parts would all seemingly be the same but they are not. I went through a couple of choices to get a nice matching set with good detail. I have a couple of them that have good detail that need to be rechromed because of very minor pits.

Also make sure the guy who rechromes them understands about making them look right and matched. Look at a bunch of 67's and you will understand what I am saying.

Have fun

Thanks. I have two full sets to look at. All low mileage, early 70's since last on the road. Need to look and see what really needs to be done also. Hoping to just be able to clean and polish some. Want to keep re-chroming to a minimum. But, am I right on what needs to be chromed ???

The main piece and the handle for the vent are the only things to rechrome , the rest is stainless and can be polished easily. Good luck on choosing your pieces and if you need more choices I have a couple of them to choose from too.

My bad, it is chrome around the vent window, I remebered about 20 minutes after I posted. I didn't have to do much with mine except use polish on them. Sorry.

Ok I earlier posted a thread about rechroming my vent window stuff. After a closer look it looks like I might be able to buff/polish them back to life. The main front support is no biggie to do. My concern is the glass frame. What's the best way to buff/polish it. Should I take the glass out then use a thin piece of something like OSB to fill in where the glass would be?? Or, just put some tape on the glass to protect it from the buffing wheel and buff it with the glass still installed ???
